I have an ASUS Geforce N6800 512MB GPU.

The core temperature is currently at 95 C. Is that OK?

The Ambient temperature is 63 C.

The Core Slowdown Threshold is 135 C.

That seems awfully high for a 6800 card - those don't generally get too far above 70c. You sure the fan is working on that thing?

I'm getting the temperatues from my Nvidia Control Panel = not with software supplied with the GPU...

The software that was supplied with the card is buried in a cupboard = same for my CPU...

95C is waaaay too high for a 6XXX series card. What are you using to measure your temp?

I'm now at 98 C and worried...

Isn't it the Ambient temperature that really matters?

I guess it's the Core temperature that's most important..

No. The core (graphics chip) temperature at 98 C is what counts. I've never heard of a card being that hot, let alone at idle! My X1650XT is 58 C idle (core) and that card is known to run quite hot. What is your case airflow like? How many case fans? Rear and exhaust fans? All working properly? Positioned the correct way so that air is being sucked in (from front fan) and exhausted (by rear fan)? Put you hand at the back of your case to feel how warm the air is from the exhaust fan. Ideally it should feel just above room temperate, say around 30 C. You should also try taking the side case cover off your tower and blowing some cool air into it and see if that helps the temps. If that doens't help, then your card could be faulty. Temp monitoring software shouldn't be the problem.

I'm now at 91 C + 56 C.

Should I be aiming for about 50 C + 30 C?

Well it's no wonder then...anyway, you need 2 fans. One as an intake fan and one as an exhaust fan.

For instance, my CD ROMs get hot... is that also because there's no case fan?

I'll get my PC sorted out now I know what problems I have with fans, CPU, RAM etc.

The optical drives don't matter. What matters is your CPU, Graphics card, HDD, RAM and PSU. It also doesn't help your motherboard's chipset heatsinks either.

What size case fan should I get? Will all sizes work?

That's 80mm, 92mm and 120mm.

Do they use the same power connectors as Hard Drives, CD ROMS and my GPU?

It depends on the size of the mounts in your case. Measure them from corner to corner (diagonally). Most fans will use a molex connector which is the standard connector from you PSU (yes, the same as HDD's etc). Some will have a 3 pin connection which plugs directly into a motherboard fan header and some will have both.

I've got two Case Fans on order...

But, is it possible that my GPU fan simply isn't powerful enough?

I guess not...

My buddies 6800GT used to hit 95c when gaming and would idle around 75c, they are some HOT cards with the stock cooler. I told him to get one of these, and his temperatures now don't even hit 60c.

Don't bother lol. I take it you're not THAT familiar with computer's from this whole fan problem so I wouldn't attempt to mess around with the cooler on a graphics card. No offense intended! You GPU fan is fine as it's made to factory standards. You'll find that when the cool air rushes through your case chassis, your temps will drop significantly. What sort of fans have you ordered?

2 of Antec PRO 80mm Clear Double Ball Bearing Case Fan from Amazon.

Are screws/bolts/nuts supplied?

My mobo only has one fan connector, so do I fit the one case fan Exhaust or Intake?

I'll try both and see what works best...

OK, I think I'm up-and-running now... I'll fit an exhaust. :D

Hopefully, the nuts/screws will be supplied with the fan...

Thanx for all the advice.

The screws should be supplied with an Antec fan so you'll be ok. I'd fit the front one via the motherboard as 80mm's are usually noisy when run off a molex (full speed). Those Antec one's may be a bit quieter than a cheap one. :)
