Civilization IV and Galactic Civilizations II are about as good as it gets on turn based strategy, and they both have demos.
There are many other Civilization games - most of which probably have demos. Just try searching. There's also a sequel to Civilization II called Alpha Centuari, which is especially awesome - but I don't know if it has a demo.
Galactic Civilizations II is my personal favourite though, I think.
Well thanks for the replies but I already have civilization 3 complete package and Im not interested in space battles so galactic civilizations doesn't interest me. I thought the Fallout series was a rpg like neverwinter nights or something well any other suggestions anyone?

omg i just checked laser squad and that game is made by those guys who made the original ufo series, that means i must get it sometimes its really hard to find those gems

Though a very old game, but if you would like to get your hands on some excellent WWII turn based games then you should try Panzer General III. No WWII turn based strategy game has surpassed it's glory. But you may have to put up with it's graphics though, after all it's more than 6 years old I think.
