Hello everyone, I just ordered some new computer components and now I'm thinking about taking the plunge and getting a new graphics card. My new set up will be: Intel Core i7-4770 Gigabyte GA-Z87-UD3H Kingston HyperX Beast 16 GB Kit (2x8 GB) 2400MHz DDR3 The graphics card i have at the moment is evga Geforce 570 GTX 1280 ram. I'm thinking about spending around $700 (though i prefer spending much less) on a graphics cards that would feel like a HUGE upgrade from my current graphics card. I was originally considering the 690 GTX but the price is HUGE. Tell me what you think. PS. my main game is BF3

With that budget you could get the GTX 780, though the GTX 770 is just as nice, especially if overclocked.

That should compliment you system nicely. Although BF3 isn't THAT demanding when it comes to GPU.

Heck, even a GTX 760 has no issues maxing out BF3 at around 60 fps. Its a pretty easy game to run nowadays.

It is a shame NV gave the base model 570 only 1.2GB, and extra 300mb (480 memory) you could easily handle it better.

I would go all out on a 780 in all honesty, i mean why the hell not? :P

I recommend the 4GB GTX770. That will cover your gaming needs for years. And also remember that Battlefield 4 is coming out in like 3-4 months, so you might want a GPU that also covers that.

4GB across a 256-Bit bus is useless with a single monitor and GPU setup.

The GPU it's self will run out of oomph before it hits a memory wall even with 2GB.

Get a 4770K at least... And a 770 is on stock about 5% faster than 680.

First of all, thanks to everyone for their comments and replies. I see most comments are suggesting the 700 series. However, according to to nvidia website the 690 seems to be performing far much better than the 700 series and titan. Other 600 graphic cards (ie 680 and 670) were also performing equally or better than other 700 series. i dont know how to post images, but here is the comparison: http://international.download.nvidia.com/webassets/en_US/shared/images/products/shared/lineup.png yet everyone here seems to be recommending the 700 series... am I missing anything?

could you please confirm if i understood this correctly, if i'm not going to have a dual display, then a 2gb memory is enough?

Dual display? it will use no memory because you cannot play games across 2 screens, unless you want a bezel in the middle of your view.

And as i already stated, you will not be able to use 4GB, the bus width is too low, it would be fine in 3-way SLi however.

That's because 690 is a dual GPU card. They come with their fair share of downsides, hence people will generally recommend a single GPU, and SLI another in the future.

People tried to tell me the same thing when I decided to get a 2GB 560 Ti instead of the 1GB version. Shortly thereafter, everyone was complaining about stuttering in games that use more than 1GB of VRAM. Hell, Aliens vs Predator is 3 1/2 years old, and it uses every bit of 2GB of VRAM at 1080p. With the new consoles having enough VRAM for developers to push memory usage in multiplats, and with so many current games already hitting 2GB of VRAM usage, I wouldn't get a card with less than 3GB of VRAM at this point...

go for AMD 7970, nvidia cards have compatability issues with newer games due to their messed up drivers

it also has 3 gigs VRAM very useful if youre gaming on 1080p or more, the new gtx 700s only have 2 gigs and a smaller memory bus so beware

Yez. Modded and future games will eat up vram.

Bf3 can be quite demanding if you want to run it very smoothly.

Memory in CFX and SLi is mirrored, not combined.

With a budget of $700, go for either a NVidia GTX770 or AMD 7970.  Remember that cards frome NVidia and AMD that have "90" at the back of their numbering are dual cards (two GPUs on one PCB) and as a consequence are 70 to 90% more powerful. And 'slightly' more pricy too...

Gigabyte uses quality components, and that's an excellent cooler. Plus, it's cheaper on top of that. Out of those, I would get that one...

Also, I guess that I should add that you can get a card that performs almost the same for $150 cheaper.. $298.49 w/ promo code EMCXNVR54 and MIR - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7970 3GB OC with Boost

thanks for the link. I think I found the same card at amazon not sure though whether from ati or gigabyte and it was the same newegg price after the coupon. i'm still not sure about Radeon. I checked the reviews and it seems to be performing less than the GTX 770 in some cases (or at least in the games that I play).

yes, i acknowledge this. but my previous post compared two 780s together, and three 770s together. i could not figure out how one differs from another. for example one of the 770s is almost identical in specs, but the board looks different even though they are both same brand. got me confused.

Yeah, the GTX 770 is a little faster, but it's also $150 more. The 7970 is just another option on the list is all. It all depends on how much you're willing to spend...

780 if you want nvidia, and 7970 if you want great hardware at a great price.  The 7970 has 3gb vram and a 384bit mem bus at a price of $350, and the only card that compares to that on nvidias side is the geforce 780 at around $650 and the titan at $1000.  Nothing else in nvidias lineup compares.  Yes the 780 is faster than the 7970 ghz, but the difference is around 15-20% max, not a big deal at all.

Well, seems like the 'fanboy' is right.  The GTX seems to be only marginally faster for at least $150 more.  After having seen that clip, I'd go for the AMD 7970...

What I've also learned is that some folks better leave their wannabe Samurai moves in the closet, lest they want to wind-up in hospital...

Damn dude, $300 for a 7970 boost (thats crazy). I'm like these recent price drops (7950 has dropped to mid 200s, 7870ghz can easily be found under $200). Its looking like the new AMD cards aren't going to be a die shrink so im curious to see how they compare to the 7000 given these prices (I feel llike all the cards under the 9970 won't be that great of a value given these crazy price drops).

Get 2 GTX760's , comes out to about $500 and it outperforms a Titan for half the price.

The decision just been made easy for me... The video convinced me that the two are very close in specs but the gtx 780 did outperform the AMD 7970. So I decided I want to get the 780, however it is not available in stock at Amazon Global. My only options are either the TITAN or GTX 770. Since the AMD 7970 is very close from the 780's performance, and since the TITAN is way much more expensive than the 780 and the 7970... so i think the 7970 is my only available option at the moment. i'll check newegg as last resort... if the 780 is not available there for global shipping then i will get the 7970 from amazon. EDIT: I just found the XFX FX-799A-XNF9 Radeon HD 7990 6GB 384-bit x2 GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card... which is supposed to be equivalent to TITAN, correct? If so, its a good deal... i think... at $830. Shall i place the order?

Read my post ^ better than Titan for half the cost, no need to spend that much.

Yup, thats why i already placed the order:)
