Yep, I think that's where the problem lies.

Yep, I think that's where the problem lies.

What they are saying is that a 32-bit OS only addresses up to 4GB or ram, regardless of what your mobo may support. A 64-bit OS supports more than 4GB. Check to see which version of Windows you are running and let us know as that might be the problem.

Even with more than 4Gb of RAM it would still boot and load Windows, just would not be able to use the other 4Gb. Are these 4Gb Dimms? If so are you putting them in the correct configuration (slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4)?

This is correct, hell even without an OS you can still boot the computer up into BIOS.

I wonder if this wll work for him, although 'I think' the defaults are unchecked...

Type in msconfig at 'Start'>go to boot , advanced options and uncheck number of processers and maximum memory .

Im pretty sure this is a cold boot issue, had it with my gigabyte board but updating the bios fixed it for me and also enableing xmp profile for memory might help.

Ypu can get the latest bios from here:

Check on Gigabyte's website if there's any issues with the RAM profile/type. There used to be lists with RAM which works on certain mobos. Kingston (especially RAM with an XMP -extreme memory profile) had issues in the past with some boards.
