I'm holding off on getting a new powerhorse notebook until I'm going to college next year, but in the meantime, I was going to buy a netbook to play games on the go. I know Starcraft, Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 are compatible but what other games may be compatible? Anything more recent? For storage space I was looking into getting a netbook with a 40 gig SSD instead of a 160 HDD just in case I drop it, so space is somewhat limited too.

putting a DOSbox on it opens up SO many options. MAYBE cs:s? The original Half Life, Plants vs. Zombies, pretty much anything pre-2004. You could probly get Doom 3 running on REALLY low settings.

Ooh: Don't forget Quake Live (yay!)

Actually, what we really need to know is the chipset for the netbook uses for graphics. Even if it's an integrated chip, we need to know what it is in order to give solid recommendations.

  • Quake 3
  • Quake Live
  • Unreal Tournament (the original)
  • you might be able to get Dawn of War 1 to work (but you need to manipulate your screen a bit to get the 800x600 minimum resolution)
  • anything from PopCap
  • the old Black Isle games and games of that nature (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment)
  • Sacred
  • Divine Divinity
  • X-COM series

It's unfortunate that you couldn't get the Intel X3100...that would open your possibilities quite a bit compared to the GMA950.

The GMA950 doesn't even support Hardware Transform & Lighting, which is going to really limit your gaming options. (For the record, my old TC1100 dating back from 2003-2005 has a GeForce 4 Go 420, which isn't much of a dedicated graphics chip even in its day, but is still capable enough to play games from 2001 and prior-partially because of HT&L.) On the other hand, 2D games like your typical PopCap fare and all those classic RPGs (Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, maybe even Arcanum) shouldn't be hindered much, if at all.

Oh, but that practically goes without saying! Deus Ex is a prerequisite for one's status as a gamer, no exceptions! (Now that I think about it, it's based on UnrealEngine1, which doesn't even support HT&L, so the GMA950 may not bog him down quite as much.)

There is no such games that we can run on our netbook.... From my personal experience, no recent game are compatiable. My model is Asus Eee-PC 1000h which has no bad system capability. I tried to play GTA3(not 4) but I failed...... as its name tells us, netbook is for 'net' not games suffing the web and get satisfied, never expect more!!~~~
