I can't say that I fully understand your question, but....if you are reformatting a hard drive or formatting a new drive, it should be fine. Unless you have a new motherboard or a new cpu.

I recently had Vista on my old Hard Drive..I bought a new Hard drive and i was able to register Vista with no problems..With Vista OEM you are only locked to one motherboard forever, switching HDDs shouldn't be a problem..

yeah you can reformat. I dont understand if you are asking if you can.....or you did it and it wont work? OEM just means you can never use it on a different compuer than the one you installed on. So You can't upgrade motherboards ....sometimes newvid cards will causeconflictsas well. Call Microsoft if anything.
