Here are a few that you can play co-op:

Borderlands 1 & 2
FEAR 3
Dead Island & Riptide
Rainbow Six series
COD: World At War

A good site for finding which games support co-op is: http://www.co-optimus.com/

Hope that helps.

Left 4 Dead 2, Borderlands 1/2, Killing Floor (for straightforward but highly enjoyable wave-based killing), Serious Sam 3: BFE

I've extensively played and greatly enjoyed all of those with friends.

Borderlands 1 & 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 are going to be the most popular to try out. I loved both Dead Island games as well as FEAR 3.

Have to say Left 4 Dead 2 as well @Arthas045, and portal 2 could be fun for a 2 player coop .. i also really enjoyed dead space singleplayer, i think it has a 2 player coop as well ;)

Arma 3. Lots of user generated content easily accessible through workshop. With personal friends, it's a lot of fun.

ArmA 3 and SWAT 4

These games are king of coop IMO, they are deep, rewarding, and replayable.

Proudly necroing this thread to say that System Shock 2 is on Steam and has co-op, and to everyone who even clicked on this thread after reading the title: if you haven't played that classic game, it's the same as never having played Half-Life, Deus Ex, or other foundations of the genre. You know you've meant to get around to it!

I can state without reservation that it is better than any game in the "spiritual successor" Bioshock series, all of which I own and enjoy, and, with a now-standard suite of high-resolution and game-enhancing patches and mods updating everything from enemy models to weapons balance (do a Google search for "GOG system shock 2 mods"), the game more than holds its own against many contemporary FPS with co-op. Little ones need lots of meat to grow up big and strong.

All games that were mentioned before are quite good for co-op

I'm going to add Warframe, it's a third person shooting/melee/acrobatics with up to 4 player co-op
