Far Cry, I don't know how you don't like the mutants (adds to the story and makes for some more interesting gameplay), but Far Cry 2 is like assassins creed set in Africa. The same tasks over and over just make the game feel boring and repetitive imo.
Based on what I have read on the views of Farcry 2, I would choose Farcry 1.. I didn't mind the mutants.. Farcry 2 from what I Have seen looks like a game I would not enjoy with the endlessly respawning enemies, lack of options such as no leaning or prone positions..
Far Cry without the mutants is better than Far Cry 2. It's a hard decision once mutants enter the picture. Weapons in Far Cry actually do fatal damage, which is probably the deciding point (Good Gunplay vs. Broken Gunplay)

Far Cry 1 was probably one of the hardest games I've ever played, up there with Operation Flashpoint and Diablo.
I didn't care for the mutants or the boss parts of Far Cry 1 (like the cowboy in the helicopter, or that crazy part near the end where soldiers just pour into that closed in room with the black floor), but it was still way better than FC2.
The first 3/4's of the original Far Cry are epic. You can hide, snipe, flank, attack from vehicles, nearly anything you want. I could play it all day. FC2 I've been playing in 1/2 to 1 hour sittings before doing something else.
Far cry 2. It seemed more mature, less poor 80's action flick.
FC2 is not without flaws, I ended up plotting routes to go around guardposts early on, worked great, and ended up useng the busses quite often.
There are some fatal flaws in the game, namely the side missions that is the same thing over and over... little exitement there...
The main story of Far Cry 2 is more muddy, and apart from 1 point in the game which is out right cheesy, I really began to get sucked in. I prefer the gun combat in FC2 over FC1, I liked the weapons better, and apart form my guns magicly doing a lot more damage in aimed mode, diddnt bother me that much.
(seriously aim and most weapons drop after 3-5 shots, fire from the hip and expect to use the whole mag)
Im not sure why, but FC1 impressed me with the engine, and the gfx, but felt shallow and pointless. FC2 did not impress me with the engine, but did impress me with the fluid gameplay, and the guts to let you play an evil character.
All in all it just felt more like FC2 had a story to tell, they did not choose the best way to tell it, but it did make an impression on me.
FC1 storyline is good enough for a film to be made of it (the film was oookaaay i guess lol) FC2 storyline is soo boring it depresses me, and playing it feels like a chore and i dont know what Ubisoft were thinking when they changed a Platformer into an RPG, bull**** and the worst part about it is that you can't even go 2 player versus with friends if you think FC2 is good then your wrong cause its ****
I've never played Far Cry 2. I have played Far Cry. Crytek's game came out of nowhere. No hype, nothing. That's why Far Cry was such a stunner when it first came out. I too have yet to finish Far Cry. I play at the Realistic setting and often get my butt kicked by the trigens. But, I have no intention of uninstalling it yet even though it's been superseded by Crysis.
42% Think Far Cry 2 im shocked! Its like the worst FPS game ever.
I'm shocked too :P
I absolutely loved FC. Huge maps, but still more linear than FC2, and there fit many play-styles.
FC2 is uninteresting, and the 50km map--I had seen the north and south ends of it in two hours. Play a few missions in FC2 and you've seen it all. I felt it was a sorry excuse for a game. It was more of an expansive tech demo with little to do.
The fast respawns and constant traveling became torture.
Far Cry 1 is one of those games I unfortunately missed out on. Maybe I'll borrow it sooner or later, or try to get it for cheap. Far Cry 2 was a game with huge potential, but all of its potential was undermined by some horrible programming and questionable design.
Far cry is the better game: I played it expecting little and it was amazing, but when I played far cry it was great, till I realised the entire game existed out of doing the same thing over and over and over. That wouldn't be so bad if only the game had the AI of far cry which was pretty advanced for it's time, instead I found far cry 2 to have some of the worst AI I've seen to date (can't understand some people praise it's AI)
Sure the trigent twist wasn't that great especially those big ones with rokcet launchers, but they didn't take away the tremendous fun I had fighting the mercs. As for the story both of them are poorly executed, far cry 2 because of the lack of focus on story and the horrible rushed way the lines are delivered. far cry because the plot just wasn't that good, it was atleast a bit funny though.
Last but not least far cry had diverse gameplay, and gave you some choice in how to approach missions. and you needed to be stealthy or you would die a lot. Far cry 2 however, the shooting wasn't bad and on hardcore it was challenging (though not always in the good way) but the repetition, I got half through to game, but when after the plot finally seemed to take of everything went back to the same kind of missions as before I gave up on the game and every time I try to play it I almost immediately wan't to stop again.
