I have Vista 64-bit

NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS

When playing Fallout 3 my computer freezes and I have to shutdown the game through task manager and restart. It seems to be getting worse. I have updated to the latest video driver but no change. Anybody else have these issues?

You shouldn't be getting trouble with that card, especially if it's overclocked. And no, gentlemen. fallout3 is NOT demanding. What settings and tell us what drivers?

You might want to lower the graphic settings if they're turned up too high - this game starts doing funny things if you set the sliders higher than what your GPU and CPU can manage.

Other than that, I personally would take this issue over to the Bethesda forums and work your way through the problem step by step. Fallout 3, in my opinion, is a masterpiece, and it's definitely worth the trouble.

For me, this game is completely stable - as long as I play at the settings one notch below the very highest.

Also, a bit off topic - but suddenly Fallout New Vegas is my most anticipated game. I can't wait for October now. Another Fallout game - WOOT!

Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 Find the line: bUseThreadedAI=0 change it to: bUseThreadedAI=1 Add another line after it and insert: iNumHWThreads=2 This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze

Strange that. I have a quad and vista64 and the game only locked on me once in over 80 hrs of play and that was before the first patch. I tried the back door to some womans house and it locked up. Didn't do it when I went to the front door. My specs are in my sig except I had an 8800 GT512 at the time. Never had any core problems.

To be honest there is word around that before the patch the game handlend quad cores just find and it did not lag in vats. Damn, patching= fail.

Eh, actually before patching, the VATS lag glitch was still there :/ but the oblivion/fallout 3 has always had driver problems. I recommend going to 185.85 WHQL drivers for fallout 3 BTW. All the nvidia 19x.xx drivers have been complete crap (pretty much all of them, including one that almost could destroy your GPU from overheating)

Yeah, nvidias failing currently.

That is 100% true, everything was great with 185 but with 19xx i had problems, extreme lag. I update and the lag was gone but i am getting nv4_disp.dll blue screens. What your reccomend doing? Going back to 185?

So sorry I wasn't clear. I patched as soon as it came out so most of the game I played with the patch installed. As far as drivers I played with the 185s with the 8800 card and 190.62s with the 275 card and still no problems. I just updated to the 196.21 yesterday to play 2033 and haven't tried them on Fallout 3 so I can't speak to that yet.

Well I've never had a issue with Fallout 3 with any driver after I forced the threaded optminization on in the nvidia control panel.

Same stuff with my MW2 and oblivion. I've been checking with the guru3d forums and it seems like everybody has at least been having some problems with the whole 190 series

Resort to lower drivers until NVIDIA get's their head out of their asses /:

I recommend you go to tweakforce.com and get the tweaked 185.81 drivers for amazing performance. or the 182.06. However, I heard that the 195.62 drivers were actually good on games if you actually turn water multisampling to low on fallout 3 and bam no stutter. I'll test it on a couple games and report back

Alright gentleman

XTreme-G 195.62(For anyone that wants to give the 190 series a shot, since the 195.62 is the most stable of the bunch)

http://www.mediafire.com/?tjyzyqyotzk

For the 185.81 go here

http://tweakforce.com/modules.php?name=Downloads

And type in the search box

185.81

And BTW, I've heard promising things about the 182.06 drivers, type that in the search box too.
