For Some Odd reason my DvD drive has ceased to work. It is Detected but it fails to open or eject or do anything for that matter.

Windows reports that its working fine but obviously it isnt if I cant open it. Is it dead or did I change something accidently?

After pressing the eject button, I would first try tapping on the tray, as it may knock loose and open. I worked on a machine that would do this recently.

If that doesn't work, try straightening a paper clip and inserting it into that tiny hole below the tray. Push in far enough and the tray should open enough for you to grab and pull it out the rest of the way manually.

You may end up having to open it up and check to see if the rubber band on the gears popped off or if a gear had busted.

Get a pin and push it into that small hole, it should open up, then update the firmware, check connections if not you'll probably have to get a new drive. A good chance to ditch IDE if you have an IDE drive :)
