I've only ever played either one for a little bit but I enjoy them and was wondering which one is easier to get the hang of and more user friendly? I am not trying to start a war between fanboys either I just kind of want to gage which one to try and jump into. Thanks

I have yet to play Dota 2 but from what I've read LoL is much easier to get the hang of.

League of legends is easier to get into however both communities are terrible so going in be prepared for a lot of extremely rude people.

Yup, it's pretty sad and pathetic how some people act in these games. TC, if you have any friends that play either of these games then hop onto the one that they play. IMO League doesn't have as much depth as Dota so it's a little easier to get into.

Which one is better to start with?  A proper RTS game and not its stripped down derivative.

Dota 2, it's just as easy to get into as LoL, it does have things that are harder to develop skills for, however that comes with time, stayng alive and contributing in general is the only thing you have to worry, in both games, item builds are also as easy to get.

Both are easy to get into. Its just that DOTA2 has more stuff going on, some people might say it has a higher skill ceiling.

I have played little of League of Legends and have not played DOTA2 at all yet but apparently the latter doesn't charge you to unlock heroes as all heroes are already unlocked. That already makes it a far more amiable choice. The latter is also graphically more appealing and will appear on Linux soon enough.

I prefer LoL, I know it's easier than DOTA2 but I like how they removed some of the harder mechanic's like denying.

This is true. I prefer Dota2. Like more the mechanics of denying, watching the runes on the river, and having all heroes available. Plus, I really dislike the talent tree and the runes in LoL. And the skills like flash, ignite and others.

DOTA, however LoL is still a damn good game and as everyone else is saying, easier to get into. Worth noting DOTA has absolutely no character grind at all and stupid microtransactions - all it has is cosmetic items; which in my eyes is a huge advantage.

Gonna have to go Dota since Riot have stopped balancing their game and just care about making more champs.

DotA 2 is harder, but much deeper and rewarding. Plus, you have all heroes available from the start. LoL is basicaly a super dumbed down version of DotA with a cash store and out of game bonuses to justify the shop and the grind.

Dota2 is harder initially, but they pretty much even out after a while. The grind doesnt really matter much since youre going to do it anyway as you play the game, not that hard. The Bonuses that you get are barely worth noting (.01% boost to whatever stat WOO!), but do make a difference in higher play. When you get there you will have all that stuff anyway. The only downside is buying champions, but hey, they gotta pay for all that new development, servers, and championships somehow.

You need to pay close attention to simple math, even basic 1+1 and you're not able to do it (if you didn't play LoL at all and you're at the level where you only have a 0.1 boost to some ability, then your post is meaningless, if you're level 30...back to school), won't even discuss the other things you try to lie about.

I played a lot of Lol and a lot of Dota. Was 1350 ELO last season and would have been more, but its hard to drag yourself out of elohell as a support player. Sorry that you disagree, but runes didnt make that much of a difference to me. I had a few pages and they worked fine. They aren't expensive nor can you buy them with real world money, so I dont see the problem.

.01% is just a number I pulled out of my ass because I cant remember any of the real values and couldnt be bothered to look them up. Nice that you have to take everything so literal though.

Well, I don't like assuming to such extent as you do, if you don't want to look stupid then don't be stupid (waah waaah you took it literally waah) the numbers could reach 8% when the game was released, god know what percent you can get with random runes they added for random events. LoL is designed to be an unbalanced and unfair mess...hurr durr, but you grind anyway because you want to play the game...that is bs, nobody wants to grind just for the sake of grind and nobody wants to take sht from a game with sht community just because at the end after tens of hours they can get a full spec and full rune page, let's not forget about heroes, where you can't even play for fun, you either grind "thousands of games" to get any hero you might possibly want or you sell your house to immediately buy them, but most people will just quit and go to the better game, that was not available at LoL's release.

League of Legends. Most of the things they took out from dota formula i found made the game more fun. Both are just as deep and complex, just one has a little bit more micro. Plus you can build many of the characters multiple ways that are effective, you can in dota 2 but not to the extent of league of legends.

Better to play StarCraft II first, so you don't end up a complete scrub at RTS games.

DoTA 2 hands down, even the esport scene is making the shift. 250k average active users at one time and growing. Production Values and hero balance is much better. You don't need to grind at all, its all down to your skill. Where can you go wrong really?

Agreed. I think what makes Dota 2 very special is that the production is handled by Valve and game balance by Icefrog. It helps that the game has essentially  been balanced since 2003 and the current business model is superb.

I choose Dota 2. If you want to truly learn to strategize and make quick decisions on the spot and not be as forgiven for making mistakes, Dota2 is for you. If you want to have casual fun in a more relaxed environment, go with League. I've played at least 150 League matches and closing in on 100 Dota2 matches, and I prefer Dota2 hands down because it is more of a challenge. It also has a WAY better business model. It is obvious what League's business model has turned into. Riot points are just as bad as Microsoft points on XBL. At least with the Steam Funds you can spend it on ANYTHING In the Steam store.

But either way, both require a pretty big investment to get into. You have to learn all of the heroes/champions, item builds, tactics, last hitting, etc... but Dota2 definitely requires a bigger investment IMO. However, it has a bigger return in the end - it is more rewarding and fun. To me anyway :D
