I have Windows Vista Home Premium and I can play StarCraft, but if you have Xfire then you will get these lines on your screen. Sometimes you will get like an unfinished background but when your playing a game you should be fine.

Or wait for properdrivers to come out, since that's probably the problem.

Old games should work, not sure about MS-DOS based games though.

I haven't tried those two games in particular, but old games seem to work suprisingly well on Vista, I've had less problems with Vista (64-bit Vista) than with XP for old games. I've been playing some System Shock 2 and Duke Nukem 3D (High Resolution Pack) lately, they are running quite well.

Some devs claim Vista compatibility is better than XP in their old games. example: "I should point out that Vista does have one advantage over XP: it seems to be more compatible with the games in our "Free Stuff" area."

DOSBox also works well with Vista for old DOS games.

Several suggestions were given in this very thread on how to make older games work better. What more do you want? Have you tried running a virtual PC? Have you tried DOSbox?

I run Vista Home Premium, and I've yet to encounter a game that was unplayable. Sometimes the games require a little tweaking, but I've never found myself being prevented from playing an older game (as of yet).

There are some games that doesn't work and others that are unstable.
