Do PC components go bad if you don't use them for a while?

I know, wierd question but when my motherboard before died on me before I pretty much upgraded everything and stored all my old components away. I just found them again and was thinking of using the cpu and ram to make an HTPC. They've been sitting on my old broken motherboard in the garage for about a year now and I was wondering if they would still be good. Don't want to start buying parts and find out those components aren't good anymore

shouldn't, unless it's built up so much dust it ruined it...but that'd be an insane amount of dust I'd reckon

Will be fine, i'v fired up old cards that have set for 10 years+ and they still worked fine. As long as moisture or static hasen't got to em they should work.
