There are three types of DVI: DVI-D (Digital), DVI-A (Analog-rare), DVI-I (Analog/Digital) DVI was designed from the start to be compatible with VGA. DVI-A/I Provide analog throughput with the use of a simple DVI to VGA adapter. DVI-D is used for LCD monitor inputs.
