Cryengine 3 with Crysis 3 is capable of using 8 core processors well, and it shows. I think this trend will continue as more engines will be capable of using multiple cores better, especially considering the next gen consoles are using an 8 core x86 AMD chip

the real chance that the next xbox is going to have an 8 core cpu will push nultithreaded standards even more.

I'm starting to see a brighter future for AMD now that they are developing x86 cpu's for the PS4 and possibly the next Xbox.

The two intels at the top are rather expensive though

FX 8350 is $200

3930k is $570

3970X is $1050

No not lower in price. I will wait longer to save more money to buy the non-bottlenecking cpu

You are now aware that GPUs improve faster than CPUs

Or you could upgrade to the next series CPU that comes out, and it would still be cheaper.

yup over 1/2 off every CPU. It was 290 when on the market it was nearly 700. Makes it difficult to even think about going to AMD in that situation.

Great post Ferret! I was wondering about Crysis 3 benchmarks. It's amazing that a $200 CPU is getting close to a intel CPU that cost's nearly 3X as much. Hopefully more games will take advantage of 8 cores. Don't forget that next gen consoles will use AMD CPU and GPU which means it will be optimized for AMD CPU's and AMD's GCN GPU architecture. That's why my next CPU and GPU will be AMD. AMD desperately needs to make inroads against intel and nVidia to generate much needed cash.

I guess we have Crytek to thank for optimizing Crysis 3 for newer AMD CPU's. Can't say the same for other developers. Good on them though.

Well if next gen consoles like the PS4 have lots of cores it should be far easier for devs to make games thread nicely.
