a lot of the questions here are GPU driven. but i already know i'm going with the Nvidia 8600MGT w/512MB DDR2 Video Memory. what i want to be sure of now, is the Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7100 / 2MB L2 Cache, 1.80GHz, 800MHz FSB and the Ram: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 X 1024MB how well will these suit me when playing heavy games like Oblivion or Crysis possibly? am i gonna regret not getting the 2gig processor?

You will be able to play Oblivion at max and Crysis at medium settings, The difference between 1.8 and 2Ghz is not too much, I think you will not regret

ok then. well i have another question that doesn't really warrant a new threat. since i'm getting XP, will i need to uh, work some kind of magic with that 8600 to disable the DX10 stuff since XP only has DX9? or what?

The 8600 will work fine in XP with nothing extra needed.

I just noticed the DDR2 on that 8600. If possible get the one with 256MB of DDR3 instead.

How many fps do you think will gain for 0.2ghz??5fps??he cannot play at too high resolution because 8600MGT is only a mainstream video card. So for 1200x1024 1.8Ghz I think it will be ok

You still didnt address the resolution part and you cant just throw conclusions out if he didnt tell you whats his resolution.Far as Im concern you can play games at 1440x900 just about max setting\s with a 8600card.

I guarantee you an 8600M will not max out crysis...

It will play it acceptably, but nowhere near maxing it.
