Command & Conquer Generals 2 is F2P

Damn.

Leave it to EA to mess everything up

As i wrote in the System Wars thread...a c&c RTS just doesn't attract the kind of audience that EA is going for with their games. Making this F2P doesn't make any sense, especially with EA's way of handling F2P. RTS gamers are not the type of gamers that will play an RTS game, unless that game is obviously not pay2win (DLC units confirmed, DLC MAMOTH TANK anyone?) and actually brings something good to the table, like that F2P End of Nations game.

At least there's still COH 2 to look forward to...

As soon as I read they are taking out the single player cuz of the free to play model I lost all interest in this game, and Im a huge C&C fan...II-Siamak-II

No single player campaign means no sale for me. If generals 2 had moved the series on enough, I'd have got it. Oh well.

CnC was dead for me a long time ago. CoH 2 and TW Rome 2 are our only hope.

I was doubting it's quality from the beginning. Yes a disappointment, but I would rather be disappointed now then play a terrible C&C Generals 2 later.

The game could still have potential to be as popular as LoL for the RTS genre. The singleplayer will not be at launch, but will be added later on.

Why LoL got popular... I never played the game myself but its probably because of the following:

- Its free

- Its accesible

- Its the best of its genre (debatable)

- Its competetive, requiring skill

Could be forgetting something

No campaign, and F2P, well I will say I do feel disappointed...

I am not gonna dismiss it just yet. It may turn out to be great in other ways. But I can now only focus my single player RTS interest for COH2, and see what C&C:G2 is all about once it launches.

It's a shame really though, The campaigns are the biggest part of C&C for me. I sure hope they have something special in store for it, but I have my doubts. Even though I am not one to let hype build these games up for me, just to let them never measure up to it after its launched.

Jon Van Caneghem: We're focusing equal efforts on both single player and multiplayer. You definitely need both to be competitive in the genre. On the single player side, we're building a campaign that allows you to experience this new war from multiple perspectives. We've got some great plans for multiplayer but aren't going into any details at this time. I'll just say there's going to be a lot more variety than you typically see

Why LoL got popular... I never played the game myself but its probably because of the following:

- Its free

- Its accesible

It's free, accesible (it doesn't require any skill at all, and it's definitely not the best in it's genre, but I don't want to turn this into yet another LoL vs Dota thread).

It came out when DotA was booming, and was free to play and more easy to play and accesible than DotA. It catered to DotA players and the wider audience.

The DotA audience was already extremely large by then.

c&c on the other hand is an old RTS franchise that was in it;s glory days 12 years ago, had some decent games a few years ago, but is considered dead since 2010.

Generals 2 was dead to me the moment i knew bioware was making it so nothing lost nothing gained

Lets atleast try out the game before judging it...

The multiplayer in the first Generals was amazing, and this one could easily be aswell.

Tiberium Alliances is actually a pretty good game. Basically, you first choose your faction (GDI or Nod), they are both pretty much balanced and their armies and defenses are unique in some ways.

You build up your own base, you collect resources, you build up your own army and defense, you can attack Forgotten or enemy bases, and you can join an Alliance to play together.

Been playing the game myself lately aswell, but its not really a game that you can play for very long at one time. For me the time to leave the game is when the command points run out, and they will automatically restore in time.
