It is in all honesty the best strategy game i have ever played! this graphics are top notch, the gameplay is incredible and the amount of sheer awsomeness that permeates from this game is incalculable! I can easily see myself putting hundreds of hours into this game! Sid really outdid himself this time. Easily 10/10

I'm staying as far away from this title as possible. I fear that for the next couple years all I'll be doing is playing this game.

I like it, but am getting some weird issues.

My Video settings arent saving right, the intro I cant skip till about 10 seconds in for some reason, and the game has crashed on me once.

Its nothing that big, but It does need to be patched.

Meh. I love Civ IV, but that's just the problem: I've played quite a lot of Civ IV. I know they changed the combat considerably, but...I'm not in any hurry. I can actually hold out for a sale price on this one. They have a habit of their initial releases being rather buggy anyway...

I just bought Civ4 last year with all the expansions. I want to put more time into 4 before I get 5. I will probably wait until Steam has a nice 50% off sale for Civ5 it.

cobrax25

Delete the intro videos in the game's folder (steam - steamapps - common - civ5).

I thought the demo lasts 150 turns. I was one turn away from attacking Rome when it ended at the 100th. HRNGH

Its not just you, I cant skip it either til about 10 seconds in...annoying but whatever. I see so many tech issues on the 2k forums for this game, but my Alienware m11x plays it great on DX10/11 mode! Awesome game.

I'm hoping to become a Civ fan as well once the demo finishes downloading. The game is simply gorgeous from the screenshots and videos! It's a good day to be a PC gamer!

This release will definitely put Elemental in its grave, if it's not already there.

This release will definitely put Elemental in its grave, if it's not already there.

They are about even for me personally.

Elemental definatly has a much harder learnign curve, better mod tools and is more deep to me, but Civ5 is optimized better, has better music and better graphics. As far as fun factor thats about even for me.

Two great strategy games I gotta say, I like em both a little more then SC2 to be honest. Glad I gave Elemental a chance, since the latest updates its been alot of fun.

Civilization5 definatly fits the casual crowd more though, it holds your hand alot more then Elemental does.

No doubt Civ5 will sell alot more, but dont sleep on Elemental! Im glad I picked that game up.. I think ill be playing Civ5 and Elemental both for years to come.

Day one releases though Civ5 release is defiantly better, Elemental was not in godo shape at launch but its good now. (was just released 2 weeks early). They are both making me say ONE MORE TURN very often so thats a good thing for me hehe.

Off to play some more Civ5!
Enjoy the game everyone!

Yeah I can't skip the intro for a while either. Bit of a pain.

Also, it seems I can't use my keyboard for unit commands. 'F' for fortify. 'B' to found a city etc. just doesn't work. I have to use the interface... although strangely, I can use the keypad for movement. :?

Anyway, I finished the demo with good impressions, but I really need to get used to the changes they've made from Civ 4. Researching and building improvements seems to take forever, so not sure where I'm going wrong there. Combat is much better though. Gonna play it a few more times, so I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Ok just have aquick question. System Requirments lab says thatmy CPU speed is under theminimum. SystemRequirmentslab then says Cpu Speed min= Intel core Duo 1.8ghz or ADM atthlon X2 64 2.0 ghz.It then says that I am below min and that I have 2.00ghz

So before I download the 4gb demo for it not to work I'm just wondering if I put all settings to low and resolution to the lowest would I be able to run it smoothly?

Cheers!

Heh, same here man. I'm embarrased to say I bought Civ 4 complete like 2 years when it still cost $60 and then failed to ever play it.

So, i decided today was the day with all the Civ talk around here and all I can say is, I really missed out by ignoring this game. I played for over 7 hours....so much fun. I'm sure Civ5 is even better. I plan to pick it up down the road forsure.

I've got two crazy months of uni left, so I'll be staying the hell away from Civ 5 until November-ish. After that, I'm sure that my Summer holidays will completely disappear. :P Oh, and how are the changes? I've heard complaints that it's too dumbed down...?

Gamers like to complain about silly things in games, if this was just Civ 4 with better graphics people would complain about it and ask why did it take 5 years to make this game? When a sequel does something new gamers complain about it being dumb down and mising features from the previous games, some gamers look for reasons to whin about stuff that missing from the previous game instead of rating the game for what it is, The biggest changes have come to the graphics and the gameplay side, no more stack of doom, and the game is all about tactics now because of it, you also have limited rescources to build the upper tier units so it makes every high tier unit that much important. in the game.

I agree, there will alwyas be peopel complaining.

The game is fantastic and alot better hten Civ4 to me personally. Its up there with Civ2 and Civ3 as my fav in the series. The combat is ALOT better in this then previous installments of the game. Only thing to me that is better in the older civ games is the AI.

I think they have made some great little additions to the game and it looks and feels alot better then Civ4.

THe only issue I have with the game is that the AI could be better and that later in the game around turn 500 things start to slow down alot. Other then that? Simply awesome! Played 8 hours yesterday and 3 today, loving it.

I thought they might dumb the game down alot, after the console version, but this is good for civ vets and noobies alike imo.

Youll have a Winter then bud, this game rules. Its not dumbed down.. dumbed down was the 360/ps3 civ game.

This just makes some nice additions overall I gotta say, nice improvement over civ4 (mainly the diplomacy and combat are a huge improvement).

I played the demo just now. It's addicting still.. just like Civ 4. Prepare to not have a life for a good while.

I'm loving it though the system requirements make my computer cry. The odd thing is turning stuff down doesn't seem to affect performance a whole lot. Going from very high to minimum is just a minor boost for me. Needs a few patches too, right now I get bizarre crashes at the weirdest times, just going through the main menu, in the intro, loading a game, moving a unit at the start of the game, building a city, taking a city, the game crashes whenever it feels like it.

But....when it plays holy crap this is a lot better than Civ 4. My mind is boggled why some people miss unit stacking. There was absolutely no strategy to unit stacking and it was a necessity because of the ridiculous defensive bonuses you could get. I don't care how dug in your spearmen are on a hill, it shouldn't take several much more advanced units to take them out. The new combat is refreshing, fun, and has more depth to it then simply spamming stacks. Navies and air units are so useful now too. They've gone from being support units to full on necessity when fighting. I love to just find a civ with a coast line then park a line of battleships and carriers and just bombard and bomb the hell out of them till there's nothing left then roll in the land invasion.

Is the game any good for a guy who's been playing RTS all his life and the only TBS he's touched is Heroes of Might and Magic III?

People miss the civics the most, and also religion. The new culture system looks too gimmicky, as do the new city states. I think a lot agree that unit stacking isn't going to be missed, and I've seen a mod that allows unit stacking already.
