I haven't been a PC gamer for a long time, so I don't really know what it takes to play good PC games these days. If my PC specs were: Intel Pentium 4 3.4 ghz CPU, 1Gig RAM, Geforce 7900 Graphics card, would I be able to play the latest and upcoming games?

What kind of RAM is it?

If it is DDR2, then it's pretty nice, except for that processor. See if you can upgrade to an Intel Core 2 duo

It is just fine for recent games.
It should max out pretty much everything at 1280x1024.

Easily going to run future games med-high.

Maybe another gig of RAM, but that should still be able to run games with 1GB for a while (just not maxed).

because single cores are probaly going to be outdatted by then and if you want to play direct 10 games on medium or max you'll want a dual core and also a gig of ram isn't that much and he'll want a med range direct 10 ard by winter to for crysis

If you want everything maxed with high frame rates, you'll need a new GPU and 2 gigs is best for gaming.

Where did he say he wanted to play the games on max?

He will easily be able to play future games at 1280x1024 with med-high settings for the next year to 1.5 years.
