4GB RAM

+

New CPU and motherboard

Imo start by upping your RAM to 4GB. That will help out a lot.

Can you recommend a decent motherboard and cpu? I mostly use my pc to play rpg's and the odd mmo. I'm looking to spend around $500 on both combined.

Do you want to spend that much? I'm asking because for MMO's and RPG's a high-end CPU isn't necessary.

Anyway, for a $500 budget get a core i5-2500k and a P67 mobo like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130583

Tell you what. Keep your graphics card ( its a decent mid-high end card ), Your Hard drive, Dvd drive and Case Go buy an i5 2500k+motherboard+4gb of Ram and a decent 500-550W power supply ( all those should cost no more than $350 ) and build a new pc

If you are willing to go to $500 buy a 650-700W Power supply( in case you wanna add a second graphics card) and a decent Case as well
