Because that would rock. Any help on how to attempt this? My card came with a HDTV cable breakout cable.

Heres a pic.

As long as I understand it you want to run your 8800 GT as a video card for PS3/360. In that case I believe no. Consoles have their own graphic cards. And they won't even understand what you have done if you try :)

Considering that both those consoles and that video card don't have any input jacks, I don't see how you'd be able to accomplish that. What are you trying to accomplish in the first place? =/

That 'dongle' that is included is for outputting your computer to a HDTV distplay.

besides you have to put that card in a proper slot on the motherboard in your PC. You also need a CPU and other things. the card alone is pretty much useless

Ok. Obviously you know I'm not very tech savy.

What I want to do is hook up say, a PS3 or Xbox 360 into the Blue/Green/Red Inputs on the Adapter and run games in HD through the computer.

-No I do not expect my games to look better because its an 8800 GT.

-An older computer I had allowed you to play console games, it had composite inputs right on the computer.

-I would hook it up to my monitor, but alas, there are no HDTV connections.

Every 8800 GT that I know of does NOT have VIVO(Video-In, Video-Out)capability, so you can forget about capturing a component output device's video signal through your PC with the 8800 GT alone. What you need is a video capture card with component input(or preferably HDMI input if you go with a PS3 or newer X360). Unfortunately, all the capture devices I can find that aren't limited to composite or S-Video cost an arm and a leg.

The only problem with that would be that he'll have to hook up his consoles through crappy composite or S-Video connections with just about every cheap capture card and tuner that I can think of. The cheapest component video capture card I know of is the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro, which retails for a whopping 350 US$...and that's just the tip of the iceberg! (The standard Intensity model, which only costs around 200-250 US$ IIRC, only has dual HDMI inputs. The Pro version has additional composite, S-Video, and component inputs through a dongle.)

First off, the connectors on the back of the video card are NOT HDMI, they are DVI. To hook your computer up to a HD TV you will need a DVI to HDMI adapter. Then you can run an HDMI cable from that to the HD TV. Or you can run a cable that has DVI on one end and RGB on the other to hook up to most HD TV's. HDMI cables are very spendy ( usualy 50 bucks or more just for a 6 foot cable.) but the [icture quality is superior thru HDMI.Second, there are no inputs on the 8800 cards. only outputs.Third, why the heck would someone want to do something so stupid? Hook a console up to the computer?..........LOL

About the DVI-to-HDMI cables, how is he going to transmit audio through the cable? All the DVI-to-HDMI cables that I've seen don't even have a simple coaxial or optical-in to allow transmission of digital audio to the same input. Also, I can think of at least one reason why someone would want to connect a console to a PC-to capture its A/V signals to make a video out of. (How else do we get all these console game videos on YouTube and the like, unless they want to destroy all semblance of image and audio quality by recording the screen with a camcorder?)

You could buy a Blackmagic card

Then you can play PS3 on your PC

resize it, minimize it, I think it's neat. You can chat in skype while playing WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009 on windowed mode.

OR go full screen, while continue to talk on Skype.

Or record the video in order to produce a video review, or take screenshots of your video.

All of this in HD. I think it's neat. If you want to publish videos or pictures of your video games, then I don't see why is this a bad idea.

it will be cool if you could use the power of your Nvidia graphic card in order to upscale the 720p image from the PS3 to 1080p and enjoy better quality

In other words, it's a very expensive TV tuner

With that money I will rather spend in a nice CPU

The cheapest way to do what you're wanting would involve buying a new monitor with HDMI input.   Then again if you just want to play your console games in HD, you're probably better off just saving that money for a HDTV (Should be able to get a good 27" 720p set for around $500-600 these days)

Thats the only correct answer i saw int this thread. Indeed if it has video in you can hook your console to your video card and with the correct software ( try k!tv or christvlite) you can play your console games in your pc monitor without having to disconnect your monitor from the pc to connect it to a console
