My son has an Acer laptop which is out of warranty by about a month. The screen looks like shattered glass with what looks like a point of impact. I have asked him if he has hit it and he says no (which most teenagers are likely to). He says the screen was flickering and he was opening and closing the laptop and it went off and he heard a click and then the screen was like that. Any ideas on what could have happened and how much is it likely to cost for repair.

The screen can only crack if it broken by force...dropping the laptop, hitting the screen or leaving something on the keyboard and closing it could do this. Anyway yes it can be repaired,,,just for refernce where i work it costs about £70-£100 for a screen replacment.

This might sound stupid but the actual screen is still intact it is under the surface like actually on the screen where the crack is, would this be right. Looks like someone wont have any pocket money for a long time.

Thank you for the help, he has history for this type of thing, three weeks ago he spilt juice on the laptop, and instead of coming and telling his parents he decided to take off most of the keys and clean it with baby wipes needless to say this didnt work and he couldnt get the keys back on.

Your welcome,,,,just go easy on him :) It can be broken by a little drop or by accident easily.
