Brand - Advantages includes warranty and support from the company, company builds and sets mostly everything up for you, logos on the case ;). Disadvantage mostly is the higher price.

Custom - Advantages included most likely cheaper for everything, giving it a try and building it yourself can be educational and fun, customise it as much as you want. Disadvatages includes no fancy tech support (but Google is your friend here) and making difficult choices on which hardware to use...

Brand= +Warranty and peice of mind knowing your rig works . good for people who cant bebothered to build one
- the company wants to make profit so usually pricesare a bit more

Build= +usually cheaper, pick everything yourself
- if it breaks then you stuffed.

The only real advantage that "Brand" gives you is support and warranty. Besides that though, there is no advantage. It's going to be about 10-20% more expensive than going with a custom rig.

If your custom rig breaks then you have an expensive paper weight until YOU fix it. If it broke it's probably because you were overclocking, something you can't do with a lot of brand computers.

There are a lot of pros and cons but it comes down to the user.

Do you know a lot about computers? Feel comforable opening one up and performing some maintenence? Go with a custom rig.

Do computer intimidate you? Would you rather have someone else work on it so you don't have to worry about screwing it up? Go with a Brand rig.

Brand Built pc's just have one main advantage. CUSTOMER SUPPORT ETC. Custom pc's can be a whole lot powerful and cheaper at the same time. so yeah go with custom built. but hey if you want customer support on a custom built machine, YOU CAN. just look for a shop or company online that builds custom pc's at a low price and they usually offer 3 year warrantees etc etc. in my opinion brand pc's suck, seriosly
