The blue screen of deatt can be caused by drivers and if you are playing games this makes it even more likely. Try to update all of your drivers, video, sound and all that. Right click my computer and chose devices, hardware and then device manager. Thiss wil tell you the devices that you have and will make it easier to find your drivers. Try updating them all and if that doesn't work, try a reformat last resort, or a system restore to a date when this didn't happen

You should try reinstalling your drivers, video drivers are the most influential. Also it is Nvidia based according to your error message.

well i just updated my nvidia drivers a couple days back to the latest... what other drivers could there be? do you think my video card is faulty? because in the almost 2 years Ive had this computer ive ALWAYS been having this problem. Ive never been able to run a game normally. I installed more fans so I dont think its overheating...

thoughts??

Seriously, 2 years without a reinstall and you're likely to be seeing problems. Sometimes the order of driver installation can be important. I really would format and reinstall.

Ive reformatted my harddrive twice though, which also meant I had to reinstall everything.

I meant that ever since DAY 1 of having this computer (bought all the parts from NewEgg and had a friend build it) ive been having this problem of not being able to run games. At first it seemed because of overheating, but after installing hardcore fans I still get the problem, though not as frequent.

What are your temps during game? Use a program like HW monitor to monitor the temps. Are all of your drivers up to date, including motherboard drivers? Did you update to SP3?

You're using XP, right? Did you install the bundled motherboard drivers and updates? Have you checked for BIOS updates too?

Can't find any information on that model, are you sure you've got that right? Updating should be pretty straightforward. I'm guessing that if you go to the company website, they'll proably have some sort of flash utility available which will make it a doddle.

It could be faulty parts, but that would be hard to prove.

ok i think imma just replace my hardrive, mobo, graphics card, and memory... I grow tired of this problem

Is the best way to make sure everything is compatible with one another to just go onto a computer site like AlienWare and see what parts they use in their computers?

because if a single device is corrupt, I might as well upgrade all them already since I was planning to do so later this year already.. no point in buying a new graphics card or memory right now, only to have to buy another set in a couple months when i upgrade everything else...

thoughts?

Had the exact same problem and I have an 8800 GT. Some people said it was faulty hardware like RAM but I didnt want to believe them. One day I got a different bsod message and googled it. Said it was most likely faulty ram and it actaully was. Swapped out ram and problem fixed.
