I switched to mac 2 years ago and have completely lost touch with everything i used to know about computers. i used to build gaming rigs and stopped right around intel's quad core cam out. The latest graphics card i had was the 8950 gtx. but then i gave up, 1 cause i was tired ofcontinuously spending all my money on upgrades and 2 i had shifted to music and movie editing.

But i'm back now, in search of a new monster rig. gaming isdefinitelyon mind but with my new interests in music and movie editing/recording, i was looking into having my rigmonstrouslypowerful in that area too. could you please tell me what's been going on in the world of circuits and what a goo rig might consist of. i have about 3000 dollars for this computer.

Thanks guys, you've always been a great help

[QUOTE="NVIDIATI"]Stop posting that rig :xsmc91352
why?

Because its using some really low quality parts such as a BIOSTAR motherboard, and AllComponents ram. Also its not that good for the price. And it has a 430w PSU which is pushing it with a 5850 which requires a 500w PSU.

all parts have 4 or 5 egg ratings. imo, it is good for the price. I would definitely trust it to power a 5850; a 5850 does not need 500w.

..."Watch Big video cards with the SATA and IDE ports, could get in the way, specially with dual slot cards." Thats what someone said about your Motherboard.... You plan on having someone put a 5850 in there :shock:

And thats a Micro ATX....Everything that would normally be spaced outwards on an ATX is now stuffed where the videocard is...Like the person said "Watch Big video cards with the SATA and IDE ports, could get in the way, specially with dual slot cards."

no, it isn't.
Like the person said "Watch Big video cards with the SATA and IDE ports, could get in the way, specially with dual slot cards."NVIDIATI
that has more to do with cable management than space (where his motherboard had those ports).

This is the motherboard you picked:

"BIOSTAR MCP6P M2+ 6.X AM3/AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6150 / nForce 430 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard" And that comment was on the motherborad you put in that build...

One thing I never understand is why people think Macs are so much more awesome for movie editing and working with music than what a PC can do.. seems like brain washing to me.

People like the easy to use software, but then realise that the hardware is lacking for what you pay. Personally I'd never buy a mac.

Easy to use software? Sony Vegas, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Illustrator are all on Windows. Anyone serious about music/video editing wouldn't go for anything other than that. And there's the mac-exclusive Final Cut Pro that still pales in comparison to Premiere Pro or even Sony Vegas. BUT Apple has apparently brain washed people into thinking all that software works better or is only on their Macs with inferior hardware.

Well yeah Windows does have much better software. Some people just like the "simpleness" of a mac, or at least don't know any better to use windows. But that brings us back to Apple's BS ad campaign. Its just like people who think "beats" headphones are good for music mixing, or good for anything...

I was just going to post that. :P Do you need a monitor, keyboard and mouse as well, and printer, or do you have peripherals? If your budget has to cover those things as well, that makes a big difference.

Yeah it's not that good. The PSU is really crap and gives NO room for upgrades.
