I will leave both plugged in and when on foot I will use my keyboard and mouse but when driving I will use my controller.

Like in all previous 3D games, both. M+K for on foot or heavy shooting car segment and gamepad for most vehicle situations. Hopefully it will be like Sleeping Dogs that had a on the fly switch.

No idea, will have to try K&M first to see what it is like. I'd stick to it if it's an enjoyable method of control.

I guess it depends. I really enjoyed using M+KB in GTA 4, until I discovered it had mouse acceleration built into it. If you're aiming someone far in the distance, you'll discover you can't make small adjustments to your aim to hit that someone, as the game will fail to react to very small movements made with the mouse. If that's in GTA V, I'll have to use my PS4 controller.

Why's there no option for both?

I always use both a gamepad and mouse & keyboard when playing games like GTA. Best of both worlds.

Now all I need is a flight stick for jets...

EDIT: Thanks for heads up on driver, downloading now!

AMD's driver probably ready for next month if lucky

From Anandtech:

AMD Releases Catalyst 15.4 Beta Drivers

In a busy day for video card drivers ahead of the Grand Theft Auto V launch, AMD has also released an updated driver set in preparation for release of the game.

Released in beta form, Catalyst 15.4 (display driver ver. 14.502.1014) is AMD’s GTA V launch driver and contains all of their latest optimizations and profiles for the game, including enabling Crossfire support. Along with the GTA improvements, Catalyst 15.4 also brings with it new or updated Crossfire profiles for several other games (including Battlefield Hardline and Metal Gear Solid V: GZ), and bug fixes for Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline, and Far Cry 4.

Meanwhile for Windows 10 users, as with NVIDIA’s release today you’ll want to avoid these drivers if you want WDDM 2.0 support. Officially these drivers only support up to Windows 8.1 and are not WDDM 2.0 enabled.

As always, you can grab the drivers for all current desktop, mobile, and integrated AMD GPUs over at AMD’s Catalyst beta download page.

The only reason why I'm buying my first GTA game ever is because it has first-person view. That means mouse and keyboard for me. The series held no appeal to me until GTA V.

M&KB obviously.

M&KB is better for nearly everything, including flight games. All the top BF3 pilots used M&KB, and so do the warthunder ones.

KB&M for on foot or shooting and 360 controller for driving. Driving with the keyboard sucks, it does not have pressure sensitive buttons like a gamepad so you're always on full throttle.

Keyboard and mouse, sadly PC version of GTA5 lacks the great aimbot that I've played with on my friend's Xbox 360 version.

Xbone controller for the most part. This is the first GTA I've played on PC so I'm used to playing the series on controller. I may try M&K since it is SO much better for aiming. Luckily both can be connected and you can switch between them at any time.

Going back and forth, flying and driving is much better with my xbox one controller, but I enjoy shooting more with K+M.

@undefined: K&M for on-foot, controller for driving & flying, but I'm going to use the K&M for drive-by. Contineously shooting without being able to aim totally sucks (L1/LB, you know what I mean). Anyways, DS3 or Speedlink Torid? (ST is wireless, DS3 doesn't work bluetooth on Win8)

Now that I read the thread name, I have to ask - is the game that bad in controls that gamepads input smoother character control over M+K ? If gamepad is better I better scratch it off my list of potential Holiday purchases ...

@Code135: think about it: when you want to drive a vehicle, don't you ever feel that having the control over the speed and steering of the vehicle is better than just always pushing the pedal to the metal? That's an example of when controller is better than keyboard and maybe the only. I suggest using them both.

They changed the shooting while driving/riding in a car. You can now aim freely with one button and shoot with another. I can't remember if I had to change a setting to get it to do that though. That was very frustrating on the older gen.

Both. It has seamless switching. Driving with a KB&M is garbage, shooting with a controller is garbage. So I use both.

I wouldnt mind trying m+kb & steering wheel in first person but it kinda seems a little gimmicky for GTA

Being a sandbox 3rd person game & because my PC is connected to my tv, it just kinda feels right kicking back on the lounge with a controlpad

KB/M - shooting, driving ( sometimes)

Gamepad - driving (sometimes), flying

Flying with KB/M is really terrible.

I finished the SP part with keyboard and mouse. Driving was fine. The hardest part was flying. But, It's not a flight sim or anything. The flying is very simplified which works okay with keyboard and mouse.

Here's a few that work great.

I also recommend you look for a sweetfx mod. It doesn't affect performance at all and really makes the game look so much better.

Gamepad (Xbox One Controller). I'm a rebel PC gamer that breaks PC gaming society rules and plays on the couch in the loungeroom. Console kind of setup but with proper performance and all the bells and whistles on.

Gamepad. Driving has always sucked for mouse and keyboard due to it not having the degrees of pressure you have with a joystick and triggers.. You can't press down on the w key softly to change your acceleration...
