Ok, so... I know this may sound crazy, but I was wondering if anyone knows a good FPS suitable for my 6- year old brother? He recently got his first laptop, and he's realy happy about it, but I couldn,t think of any good multiplayer games he and I could play together. I tried with Need For Speed World and TMNations Forever, but he was never realy that interested in thoes games. I know he likes action games, but the only action games I play are shooters such as Resident Evil 5, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2 etc. So, if you have any ideas, pleace let me know.

I let my nephew play Serous Sam III. Aside from the slightly awkward moment of flying eagle woman with breasts he had a blast. Set the game on easy and let him play with the xbox360 pad (disgusting). These painkiller arena type games are great for kids, they dont get lost in the map or bored.

Serous Sam I/II are more kid friendly and cartoony. I'd probably recommend them over III.

Yep, there's also servers with Party Mode or robot mode or something where they replace blood and gibs with gears and confetti and such.

You can disable some of the violence like blood and explosive gibs where there body parts fy apart as well but seems you need to move to germany or at least run steam through a german vpn server to get a complete low violence mode.

What?

If you would seriously treat a younger sibling in such a way, I hope to God you never have children of your own.

If you can somehow find a copy of the old game Nerf Arena Blast, it would be perfect for a kid. It's an Unreal Engine based FPS that is basically an Unreal Tournament clone. Instead of guns and gore you get nerf guns. No blood, gore, or anything that feels like a real weapon.

Surprisingly the game is actually pretty good. Some pretty awesome maps and fun bots. The nerf guns are all cleverly used and provide some interesting challenges themselves. The AI can be brutal on the highest levels and easy on the lowest (it takes the AI right from early Unreal Tournament games). It has 3 game modes. A standard team deathmatch (not called that), a race/platforming mode, and this really cool ball collecting mode that is actually a lot of fun and I've never played anything like it. It's all built for single player and has a good 10 maps to play, most of which being pretty damn awesome.

Unfortunately finding a copy of the game today is going to be damn near impossible. You may be able to find it as freeware somewhere as it's very old and I doubt any publisher is trying to make money off of it.

There are some copies of it on amazon left and not at some crazy out of stock price.

@DJ_Headshot: That blows me away. Excellent find. I just assumed we would never be able to find copies of that game. $30 may be a bit steep for a decade old title but I can tell you first hand it's THE FPS you want to give your kid. It's 100% skill based and will help their hand eye coordination and reflexes without the blood, gore, and general maturity that comes with other FPSs.

This. And then Counter-Strike. Anyone who grows up with Counter Strike will find every other FPS (except Quake/Tribes) easy for the rest of his/her life.

Borderlands 2 should be ideal. It's comical, witty and not so strong language.

@williamsvpro: world of padman...its a fps built on the quake 3 engine and you play as minature cartoon characters fighting in maps like a study, kitchen ,bedroom etc....it is free and its on

http://worldofpadman.com

Also for single player I would go for something like Star Trek Elite Force...a great game and no gore and tame violence....Noone lives Forever os also a good choice the comedy makes that game less serious but at 6 years old that is the most I would recommend.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Portal 2. The puzzles and problem solving would be great for a young kid, and you can play it in coop.

Violent war games are not suitable for children. It can cause similar effects that PTSDs have on a soldier.

That's not healthy at all. The games are rated PEGI 16 for a reason, you know? Although, this isn't a parenting forum, so I'm not going to lecture you.

That is up to the individual parent to decide if it is suitable. But the thing is that kids love cod's, it is not a coincidence that the majority of cod players are under 12 years old.

And what exactly is the real world about? Shooting people for fun? Haha, this is kind of the problem with presenting violence to children at such an impressionable age.

No you dont "shoot people for fun" thats where you step in and explain the difference between video games and real life.

Depends on the intelligence of the child. My niece is very smart and only 4 years old and I know I could probably explain that games and real life are not the same but most kids are morons and shouldn't play a shooter until they are least 16-18 years old or more.

Sounds like your gonna let the kid play games so I'd at least pick shooters where you are killing monsters or aliens like Halo for example, you are killing aliens that don't resemble humans for the most part. Don't like the kid play any game like Call of Duty where you are shooting other humans.

But for a normal kid with average intelligence don't let them play violent games...

If theres any chance at all the kid could ever get their hands on a real gun, don't let them play any kind of shooter or your asking for a problem.
