Pondering if I should switch out my old stereo which my pc is connected to... But to what?

At least one optical input(preferable with 2), and one or two analogue inputs. So that I can connect my PS4 as well. That's what I know I need of input connections.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I use this at my desk. It's great.

It doesn't fit your criteria completely but it's close. Also optical is pretty much obsolete and can't do HD audio. Use USB if possible for your computer.

There are tons of small amps like this one as well.

If you're looking for something more like an AVR, well I like Denon and Onkyo.

@pyro1245: I didn't think about USB for audio. Will keep it in mind.

Note: You can also use HDMI for audio. I use it to send uncompressed 7.1 LPCM straight to my AV receiver.

Kinda needed for image though.

It all depends what you are planning on switching to. What type of speakers are you going to use? Are they passive or active speakers? What are all the devices that will be outputting to the speakers? What cables are you planning on using for each device? Like mentioned earlier, HDMI can transfer both video and audio. It can be used just for audio as well.

Not really. My image goes from GPU to TV directly. Audio goes from mobo hdmi to receiver.

@dxmcat: Oh, that way. Was thinking for my PS4 that it will be difficult to use hdmi only for audio.

Do you use speakers or headphones?

I switched a a Schitt headphone amp and digital-analog converter along with some high-impedance headphones and it's been life-changing. Well, maybe not that awesome, but pretty damn great.

I'm leaning strongly towards getting a Denon PMA-60 along with Bowers & Wilkins 606 speakers.

The Denon PMA-60 supports getting sound over USB, while having at least one optical for PS4, and some extra if I want to connect other units.

Damn sound is expensive though.
