I love the monkey island games! Is there any one else who plays them. The first 2 were legendary! The 3rd was great. The fourth...well, I pretend it never happened...

They're all awesome, except for the fourth one. The fourth game doesn't exist.
I mean...there might have been a game called Escape from Monkey Island, but it lacked the humour, ingenuity and mood of the previous games, so it can't possibly be a sequel to them, right?
One of the best adventure game series ever
For me:
The Curse of Monkey Island>Escape from Monkey Island>The Secret of Monkey Island>Monkey Island 2: Le Chuck's Revenge
I didn't enjoy the first two as much as the other ones 'cos they didn't have voice acting
It is like asking: Who likes chocolate?
The Curse of Monkey Island alone is one of the great PC games.
[QUOTE="fatshodan"]I've never heard of this Monkey Island, but I enjoy both monkeys and islands, so I suspect a monkey island would be delightful!BLKR4330
If only you also enjoyed pc-games.. You would be in a world of bliss right there, I tell ya.
I hate PC games. And PCs. And the internet. I'm just posting on a PC games forum with a computer on the internet to be ironic.
I also hate irony.
YING! I is happy to see there are so many monkey island lovers here! (I only know 1 other person who plays MI...none of my other friends will play it because they don't wanna try a point and click. :( )
SMI is quite possibly the best game ever!
I found them though but they dont have any music or voice acting ,so i assumed it was not the complete version(it was only 9mb) so i deleted it and am looking for the the enhanced cd versions .No luck yet.Its frustrating because i heard that they are the best.bawathegamer
The CD versions for MI 1 and 2 don't have voice-acting, either, I think. The non-CD version of either both have music, though, so it sounds to me like maybe you didn't configure the sound settings right.

that might be the case. i used scumv but ive never installed games so old, so i had no idea what i was clicking on. Strangley sam and max:hit the road worked perfectly with voice acting and music and that came out around the same period(i think..) and that 150mb+ so i assumed 9b for 2 games was way too small. So they dont have voice acting? shame. dunno if il enjoy it. it does have music right?

Well, Wikipedia gives details on the CD versions of both games, and it makes no mention of added voice-acting. And yeah, they both have music. I use DOSBox, so I don't know how one works with that other emulator, but in DOSBox you just run the setup executable and configure the sound device you want to use for the sound effects and the music.
Moving in Mi4 and grim was pretty bad too.
At least MI 4 let you scroll through your items quickly in a translucent inventory.I also hated how lack of point and click spoilt MI4 and grim. I mean in grim you had to notice if Manny's head looked down at the item or you'd miss it. I wasted time because of overlooking items that way.

Yes, I agree that the control in both Grim Fandango and Monkey 4 is horrible. What were they thinking? Lucasarts was trying to make a more consoleish control, but if it ain't broke don't fix it! I think all Monkey Island fans here should try Sam and Max Seasons 1 and 2. It is the more faithful to the spirit of traditional adventures, with great point-and-click control, great story and fantastic animation.
It's a shame Lucasarts is not doing adventures anymore. It's a genre that always great like reading, or more like playing a book, which let's us be part of the story. And it's the genre that made them famous (not the Star Wars games as they seem to think). Thankfully now we have Telltale games, but I will be hopelessy expectung a new adventure of Guybrush and Elaine.
No, Bawathegamer, there was no voice acting. It is supposed to be 9mb. There is some music. (trust me, the game is worth it!)
The 4th one would not have been so bad if they had:
1) Got Ron Gilbert to fix the story
2) Never used that whole monkey kombat crap
3) kept it in CMI style
