Any harm in keeping my videocard fan at 70%?

I have a 8800GTS 512mb (EVGA) and started playing with RivaTuner recently to OC it to 720MHZ from 640MHZ originally. To prevent it from overheating, i've manually adjusted the fan speed to 70%. Now I notice the fan stays at 70% regardless, the extra noise doesn't bother me, but should I be worried about putting too much strain on the fan itself? i.e. shortened lifespan of the fan.

BTW: The 8800GTS runs at 48ºC at load and idles at 32ºC

at 100% all the time? I'm sure the fan would work at 100%, but what I'm really curious to know is:

Should I turn down the fan when im not gaming and only manually set it at 70-75% when I'm gaming? Or is there really no harm in keeping the fan at 70-75% all the time?

There has been tests on the new 8800's that stock cooling fan speed past 75% does not gain any more cooling. 70% is perfect, if you can stand the noise, some people use 45-55% as the sweet spot for better cooling and low noise. If your temp doesnt get above 78-80C your fine.

97C way to hot!!! it will die very shortly, I would check the gpu fan and see if its even running and if it is turn up the speed to 60% and see if it gets cooler. if not, is ur pc confined?,dusty,or poor airflow because of case? You might even have a bad card.

I keep my 8800GTS 320mb fan at 70% all the time and is working great. dayaccus007

desktop gpu's can support over 110 C

But still 97 is very hot and may cause artifacting.

Um the 8800GT can withstand temperatures well over 115 degrees Celsius. "it will die shortly"...what kinda bull is that. Don't spread false information. Anandech did a review of a passively cooled sparkle 8800GT that reached over 110C and was still going fine. You might want to check your other temperatures though, since most 8800GTs don't get quite that high.

Still, 97 is not going to hurt that GPU.
