Heh, top down is the only thing t hose games have in common with diablo. One is a hack n slash no dialogue tree that jumps right in the action and the other one is a turn based rpg with massive dialogue. Not hating on either game but they are nothing alike. Space Siege was god awful. I got bored playing the demo!!! Shadowgrounds was pretty good. Borderlands will be a First person shooter/hack n slash hybrid with a heavy emphasis on loot.fallout 1, fallout 2

Well...the guy who said Fallout was on the right track...but on a completely different train. Sadly, your best bet for a 'modern'-style Diablo-esque game would be a console game (it was actually for the original Xbox) called Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. However, if I remember correctly, the game was pretty average as far as hack-n-slash action 'RPGs' went.
i will try this it doesnt' loo so bad.=D thx :)I know Space Siege is Top down Action RPG but its sci-fi not modern, still has guns though.

!
Get the flying space monkeys on standby! It's the only way we can retaliate against aliens throwing crap around.
Seriously, though, you're best shot might be Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Granted, it's not exactly 'modern' as in real-world...but you definitely get guns (if you play as Deadpool, Blade, and/or Cable) and fight guys with modern/comic-book-future weapons.

alien shooter: vengance is possibly the best sci-fi meets hack n slash combo since fallout classic IMO

played. waiting for ultimate alliance 2 =Dyes they are its literally some of the most fun ive had in a hack n slash game since diablo 2 on my first time fighting diablo.
Restricted Area, its EXACTLY like diablo but with guns.dakan45i was thinking of that but i found it to be a waste of money
you can get the alien shooter demos here off gamespot... all of them are miles of fun.. you would need to be crazy to miss them even if they are demos. you get full access to survival mode which is an alternate modes of play in which you try and stay alive through hordes of enemies.

How good are Baulder's Gate and Icewind Dale as hack and slashers?
appletsauce
BG not so much but combats are still plenty; IceWind Dale oh yes very much...however, that's after you're familiar with Infinity Engine interface and dnd rule sets.
sorry man, but when it comes to RPGs your options 99.9% of the time are fantasy and scifi. Scifi is a better bet for guns and modern stuff, and I thought Space Siege was really an awesome game.
