Hey everyone,

I just bought Battlefield 2142 today, and I'm really excited to play it. However, I have installed it and updated it completely, but when I try to play, it just crashes to the desktop. It also crashes when I try to enter the "Audio Settings" menu, so I'm assuming it has something to do with the Audio. Anybody have a fix? I'd love to get playing tonight.

My Rig:

Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit

E6600 @3.2 Ghz

8800 GTX

2 GB of RAM

Creative X-Fi Platium Sound Card.

I think that's all you need to know. Thanks a ton in Advance!

Battlefield has a lot of bugs, and this problem is a common one problem is that there are so many different things it could be, head over to the forumn on batttlefield2142.com and try the different suggestions, and then when you get it to work buy the Northern Strike booster pack, its awsome

(1) Be sure and check that your in your Creative Console it's set to "game mode," (2) Go to the Run prompt and type "dxdiag" and press Enter. Once Dxdiag loads, click the "Sound" tab and check the date of the drivers. (3) Go to http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ and see if there are newer drivers than your current ones. (4) Assuming you find newer drivers, install them. Then once installed, restart, then go back into the Creative Console, double check that it's in Game mode instead of entertainment mode or music creation mode. Thankfully, Creative drivers usually default to "Gaming mode" for X-fi cards. :) http://www.thattechsite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3

However, using Creative's Alchemy program for EAX games it'll be fine. Also, your sound card will be used if it's OpenAL. :)

Ah! Thanks a lot! I completely forgot about ALchemy! I'll try that right now!

Edit: Ehhh...nope, Battlefield 2142 doesn't seem to be supported by ALchemy. I think it's already an OpenAL game, which just makes me more confused as to why it is crashing...

I have the exact specs as you minus the video card and i have no issues. Are you using a logitech quickcam and did you update the creative drivers?

Interesting. No I'm not using a quickcam, and yea, my drivers are the most recent for all of my hardware. It's really bugging me. Could it perhaps be crashing because I have no Mic on my computer and it's trying to figure out the VOIP stuff? Just a thought. How could I fix that?

Are you making it into a game and crashing or just crashing in the main screen?

I am unable to get into a game. It crashes either when I enter the Audio settings menu, or after the loading is completed when I'm trying to enter a game.

I have the same issue, I've turned Audio Acceleration Off, deleted the BF2142 cache folders and radial.cbd, still crashes when selecting audio tab, this is ridiculous.

This should fix your problem. It's a download site for OpenAL, it needs patching.

If your X-fi has dedicated memory on it, as some of the X-fi cards do, that could cause the OpenAl problems, as it has caused problems with some other games. ;)
