Most MMOs are time consuming, from what i've played, Age of Conan doesn't have that much grind in it, but then again I dont play that often.

yup mmo's are made to consume ur time and by that devs will earn more sub's = more money :) and most of mmos are way to fun to play ... and aoc is just as time consuming as wow or any other mmo , even more coz leveling is kinda slow in that game .

MMOs in general are time consuming. EVE Online has training and no leveling grind, however can take hours to make decent money. AoC seems quite good, but still has the usual MMO timesink issues. Otherwise there is WAR, WoW, Aion if you enjoy grinding timesinks. There is D&D Online which is free, and LoTRO is soon shifting to a free to play model.

World of Warcraft Buy the expansion packs. If you play it for hours and hours continously (7hrs+, people do that) you'll get bored. Generaly its not boring and there is no grind until you max out every stat. And blizzard never fails to release more expansion packs There are plenty of other players who will not keep you bored.

Zebaztiano

is it true that Lord of the Rings online won't have monthly fees anymore? If yes, do you still have to buy the game to create an account or you can register on the website or something...? Because I haven't seen this game on the store shelves for a long time now...

MMO's are not for you then, they are time consuming. With the exception of guild wars.

If time commitment is an issue, I would suggest another genre. Time spent playing has a direct correlation to success in every MMO I've ever played.

I'd stay away from AoC for lots of issues.

WoW, yes, is a quicksand trap, but with the easiest learning curve and strongest player base.

LoTRO is well made, but with a pretty bad player base, a moderately steep learning curve (More about where the hell do I go, not so much about 'how do I hit the enemy)

Don't do SWG, RIP.

You don't really need commitment to an mmo unless you want to experience the end game. Or at least on WoW its like that. I would hold off on WoW till cataclysm hits cause there will be more low level characters for you to play with. Maybey you should try diablo 2? very fun game and it can be played online or off. If your looking more for a single player rpg try oblivion or fallout 3. both are great games with an open world. If your pc cant handle games like that, try gothic 2 or 3.. those are also pretty cool games. gothic 3 does have a lot of technical issues though.
