i have a choice between a zotac amp omega 980ti, or the gtx 1070. Here in Canada the price of graphic cards are pretty expensive compared to the U.S.A. The zotac omega amp 980ti costs $649.99, and cab be shipped within right away.

The gtx 1070 costs roughly the same( i think ). i will be gaming on 27" inch 1440p monitor with 60hz refresh rate. But with the 1070 being so hard to find,and jnot knowing when they will be in stock, im thinking of jumping the gun, and grabbing the 980ti.

is that there a big enough difference for me to wait it out, and grab the 1070? what do you guys think?

1070, the extra 2GB will come in handy. And it's newer tech as well, once drivers improve (*cough NVIDIA gimps Maxwell cough*) the 1070 could be even faster.

Right now, a 2GHz 1070 is pretty much on par with a 1450MHz 980Ti from what I've seen.

1070, faster (about 10% over a 980ti), cheaper, lower power consumption. With how huge a leap the 10 series cards are over the 9 series, there is really no valid argument for buying 9 series cards. Especially considering how reasonable the pricing is on the 1070. Titan X performance for sub-$400, yes please.

Also, the reason the 1070s are hard to find is because they don't officially launch until Friday. Expect a flood of reviews and non-reference cards from the big manufacturers this weekend. Personally I am a big fan of MSI's cooling solutions and overclockability.

There's no good reason to buy a new GTX 980 Ti. The 1070 is much cheaper and more or less performs the same. Just wait a week or two and you'll be good. If you anticipate picking one up, maybe you'll grab one before they go out of stock (which I promise will be fast).

@FelipeInside:

All the available benchmarks are showing a reference 1070 within 1-2% above or below a Titan X depending on the specific game. I would imagine OCed non-ref cards from the major brands will be ~5% faster than that.

Yeah, there hasn't been this big of a generational leap since probably the 500 series cards. I am planning on picking up an overclocked 1070 in the next couple months, probably MSI if they release a Twin Frozr model. I've had really good experience with those for my last two cards.

It's a little bit faster than 980Ti on most games, on the contra it's a new tech and it got more VRAM.

I see no reason to go with 980Ti unless we're talking about 100$ difference.

@FelipeInside: I managed to take an image before it was taken down (Guru3D reviewer thought the NDA lifted yesterday but the NDA for non-reference GTX1070 ends in Friday :P):

:P

And this thing will cost only around $380...

1070, no question. Cheaper, performs about the same if not better, lower power consumption. Getting a 980 Ti now makes absolutely no sense.

a 980ti would make sense only if it was cheaper and or used

the 1070 is clocked pretty high and as a result doesn't have much of an OC headroom though so keep that in mind.Don't expect to hit 2Ghz without serious cooling

Get the 1070. Uses less power so it will be easier to keep cool. 2GB more VRAM and newer tech.

Jesus Christ, this new GPU technology really is stepping up.

Here in Australia only the 1080 is out so far.

@FelipeInside:

The 1070 reference cards release tomorrow in the US/Europe. Not sure about the non-ref cards from the big manufacturers, but I would imagine in the very near future if not tomorrow as well.

@Coseniath: Thanks for posting that, 20 frames may be hard to make up with an OC on the 1070 side.

You wouldn't happen to have any cuda based benchmarks between the 1070 and 1080 would you?

wait for the 1070gtx. You would be throwing money away on a 980ti. 1070 has fast sync, 980 doesn't, and it has some other new tech thats worth it, and it uses less power... and on top of it has 8gbs of ddr3 ram (i think). In the course of its lifespan that you use it, you may save over 50 dollars in electricity depending on how much you game on it.

I think the 1070gtx should be less than 650 canadian if you wait for the non-reference models to come out. The price should be $379 US, and the canadian dollars shitting around 75-78 cents. So with our current trash dollar, the price should be about $475, plus garbage tax. In total it can't cost more than $540 dollars with tax. Unless we have some very greedy retailers trying to screw us, aka Bestbuy. May want to check out ncix first, or retailers on newegg.ca or amazon.ca.

Heres a random 1070 founders edition card at newegg.ca which is $569.00 canadian, its sold out, it's price is in the same area of what I mentioned above, so the non-founders edition cards should be at least less than this. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500397&cm_re=1070_gtx_geforce-_-14-500-397-_-Product

ncix also, all around 600 dollar range-> http://www.ncix.com/search/?qcatid=0&q=1070+gtx

You have to wait and be patient, don't rush and waste money.

1070 hands down. Idk what the used 900 series market will look in time but it has to tank.
