as it is Nvidia chipset it works with SLI, so if you plan 0n doing SLI you can go get 2x 9800 GTX, in a single card configuration 4850 outperforms it in well almost all the benchmarks, but then again you can wait 2 weeks for R700 which is a dual die GPU so you dont need crossfire support on your motherboard

Get the HD4850, it out-performs it in single card and in crossfire it out performs the 9800GX2.

If you go with the 9800gtx keep that nForce mobo, but if you decide to take the hd4850 you're better off with a cheaper Asus or Gigabyte P35 mobo (Intel chipset).

If you have an nforce motherboard and have no problems with it, then go SLI GTX. You're already commited down that path so you might as well do it. If you have an intel motherboard though, which most people prefer over Nvidia ones, then crossfire up those 4850s!

Also if you go with the HD4850, which is a better choice than the 9800GTX IMO, take the Asus brand: 30$ MIR, 3 year warranty and Asus software for fan control so you don't have to wait for Rivatuner to support it. From the comments I read on newegg, some people were able to have the card run at 45C-50C C at idle and 60 C at load.

My 9800gtx is highly overclocked and at load dosent go much over 60c. At that oc Im sure my 9800gtx outperformes a stock 4850.

then u could over clock the 4850 and any peromance diffrence ur OC did would be nullified. if pppl can get there temperatures down to 60C at load then there a good amount of head room for OC
