They're both excellent cards, but I would get the GTX 670 personally...

I'd go with the 7970, is usually the better performer in games, and from your links, it is cheaper. Unless you are playing in resolutions higher than 1080p then the 4gb 670 really isn't worth its price premium, if you can find the 2gb 670 for a decent amount less than the 7970, then go with that, if not, get the 7970.

The 7970 is the fastest card on the market. Its a shock that ncidia still prices an inferior card higher. But its even more suprising that people still buy it at that price.

The Ghz edition is already overclocked pretty high. Not sure how much more you could go. If you're into that just buy a reference model 7970 for a lower price and do the overclocking yourself

The reviews ur talking about are almost an year old. Newer reviews with newer drivers put the 7970 ahead of the 680.

My point is, how many gamers do you know right now that would upgrade from Windows 7 to 8? Let's just start with PC games and PC hardware forum. Many will stick with 7, until they're forced to go with Windows 8 because they do something spectacular with DX 11.1 or make you upgrade because of a DX11.1 only feature.

DX 11.1 aside, 7970 is a good GPU and cheaper than its competitor atm. So if you're looking for an AMD GPU then that's your best bet.

Without a doubt the 7970 is the faster card, why are we even discussing this?? It's the fastest single gpu on the planet atm. And the 670 even costs more?? LOL

You could save even more money if you buy the 7950, give it a light oc to about 1050mhz and it should be significantly faster than the 670.

The 7950 is the undisputed value king atm.

Here's a recent test; http://www.techspot.com/review/603-best-graphics-cards/page3.html The 7970GE wins in 14 out of 16 games against the 670, in many of the wins the gap is HUGE, like 20+ %.

670 .....

physX

DeViLzzz

as physX is the most irrelevent argument ever I would still say 7970. physX is in no games except borderlands 2 and that works fine with a decent CPU. the few other games physX is in it dosent do anything worth having.

Same argument was made about Microsoft's DX10.1 while NVIDIA modifies DX10.0 and DX10.1 standards with their own DX10.1 like APIs(1).

1. Example http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2008/10/22/nvidia-gpus-support-dx10-1-features-in-far-cry-2/1

"The Ubisoft team wanted to enhance the anti-aliasing through the reading of the multisampled depth Z-buffers, explained Vincent Greco, Worldwide Production Technical Coordinator at Ubisoft. "This feature was enabled by either using DX10.1 or using a DX10.0 extension supported by Nvidia DirectX 10 GPUs."

Not to long ago GTX 670 was faster then 7970, its takes ghz edition to even gain a reasonable lead even with new drivers.

... As you can see gtx 670> 7970 before 12.11, and even with ghz 7970 before 12.11 was only slightly faster

the 7970 was clocked really low from the start, not to mention the 670 stock clock is around 1 ghz PLUS it auto overclocks. Its sort of like cheating. If you take that into consideration the 7970 was faster than the 670 clock for clock a long time ago.

Remove low 1280x800 resolution and lightweight Blizzard games.
