Sorry if wrong board, hardware subsection is gone, so I thought I would post here. If wrong if a mod could move to the appropriate section would appreciated.

Now to the post. I'm looking for headphones that have 7.1 surrounded sound (I'm pretty sure it's just simulated though.) That work with the PC, ps4 and Xbox for around $100 for my B-Day. Some support only one or two but not all. Worst comes to worst, I would like at least support for the ps4 and PC.

Has anyone used the gold by Sony?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there's any that work with all formats. Also in my experience surround sound headphones don't sound great as the simulated surround sound distorts the audio.

@npiet1: SteelSeries Arctis 7

but it has a flaw: Wired-only Xbox and Switch support, PS4 and PC wireless connection.

I've found this too. Just check out the main menu in Resident Evil 2. The rain sounds cleaner and more distinct with Binaural off. Virtual surround and binaural recording is never as impressive in games as it is in the YouTube demo videos, like the Barbershop one. Which is why I'll stick with stereo for my PC.

@PredatorRules: It looks great. A bit out of my price range though. It doesn't support 7.1 on PS4 but from what I can gather at the moment it's terrible anyway.

Well it's the most versatile headset in the market and it's a good one, 7.1 and 5.1 surround is bs IMO, I've had 2 7.1 headsets and 5.1 speakers - nothing beats good 2.0 quality

A good stereo headset will provide much better sound and will still provide some spatial awareness

Headphones and speakers in general are all about the specifications of the drivers never buy them soley for their gimmicks especially at low end prices.

At that price I would go with Status CB-1 or Audiotechnica m40x or if you want open back Grado SR80e are a excellent choice.

I use to buy "gaming" headphones and once I got my first set of proper cans the AKG 701's I never looked back.

If you don't care about music and higher fidelity stuff than a Razer kraken should suffice. It's $50 for open box on Amazon which is half price, which is more in line with how it sounds to price ratio.
