c&c generals and 3 are also capped at 30fps. 30fps is adequate for most rts games.

30 FPS is too low for SC, and average for CoH. Any case, the eyes can only tell the difference up to around 25fps.

ell.. RTS games aren't usually extremly fast, like fps games.. SO 30 fps are definitly enough.. As low as 15 fps can be enough.

Thats absolutely not true.  Most people can observe a difference of up to around 50-70 fps.  The 25 you speak of deals with motion pictures and tv, as they only run at 24fps, the difference though, is that film uses motion blur in between frames

Not true, I can easily tell the difference between 30 and 60fps. There is no definate limit for the eyes.

tota BS, why do people post without researching? The human eye can see up to 75 FPS and above, a quick google search will find a lot of info on this. There is a reason games running at 25 FPS seem slower then 50, because the eyes can easily see the difference.

30fps is aprox the limit the human eye can do.  When games sit about 30fps it may seem slow because they'll bob below 30 but if you were 30 all the time or higher you can't see a difference as far as i am aware

Can you read? My link explains that the himan eye can see well above 30 FPS (Above 70 actually), you are spreading mis-information. For movies 30 FPS is the max due to motion blur between frames, for games that is not the case. Geez, do some reserach bro.

A little research goes a long way.

30FPS is more than enough for supcom considering even an 8800GTX can't get 60FPS+ with all settings maxed.(Maybe they can now because of the new optimization patch)

Um... I get constant 60 fps now win supcom with 8800gts all maxed.

Anyway, 30 fps is enough for RTS but definately not for Starcraft, well for obvious reasons.

Also, the human can definately tell the difference between 25 and 70 fps, I for one can notice mouse lag anything below 80 fps, since i play twitch shooters. Pro quake 3 players need around 100 fps.

30 FPS is easily enough for a FPS.

People who want 60+ FPS in their games are just being stupid. You can't possibly tell the difference between say 40 and 60.

I said that you might be able to get that because of the new patch. Before then not even an 8800gtx could get to the 50FPS level.

Yeah, yeah I have no knowledge of the actual FPS that the eyes can discern. I just know there is one and pulled a number outta my rear.

same... .30 fps is definately not enough for FPS. 50 is good is good for the average player, 60-100 fps is good for a competitive player.

Actualy that's a myth. It depends on eyes, but most people can easily tell between 30fps and 60fps. And fighter pilots have been registered to notice up to 200fps

I can definitely tell the difference between 60 and 30 FPS, recently quake 4 got some updates allowing it to go to 125 in multiplayer. I play at 125 on average but if I go to a server that has it @ 60 I can immediatly see and feel the difference. 60 is fine for an average FPS game, but imho 90 to 125 is good for quake and other fast pace games.

Mmmm I think a professional quake 3 player would beat that 200 fps, it's harder to be like fatal1ty than be a fighter pilot imo.

Anybody who believes the eyes can only see 30ish FPS is a fool. Go on counterstrike and set fps_max 100 and then fps_max 30, and if you don't notice a difference then ill eat my hat.

I was going to jump on this, but Dnuggs beat me to it.

I notice a HUGE difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS - that's why I spent the extra money on an 8800!  There's a very surprising amount of science that goes into explaining why TV can get away with low frame rates, but video games have not.

As usual, the urban legend is a distortion of a fact. The myth is based on the low (~24) FPS of traditional analog television. Obviously, most people don't have "framerate" problems with std. TV - so many people erroneosuly conclude that 30FPS is about the max the eye can detect.

And that's real cool about fighet pilots though - those guys rock!!!

no, I can with ease tell the difference from even 40 FPS to 50. Its all total crap about how the eye can only see X frames per second. but of course there is a limit its just really high. This reminds me about my friend who still thinks lightning cant strike twice.

It's not so unusual for games to have capped FPS. The reason is thay they typically use the FPS to synchronize game events. With the FPS uncapped, the game might become unplayable because the PC will speed up in-game events like mouse movements and computer opponents.
