6970 CF are similar to 580 sli performance wise, and to b honest physx is useless. Ive tried it on high and i don't see a difference, even though people are telling me there is one. Shame that only 10 games use it, I can't really get a guage on it with so few pc titles. anyhow no point in upgradig now.
Are you serious? SLI GTX 570's will handle anything out there for sometime.. Hell, I'm going to run 3 monitors using SLI 2GB 560 Ti's...-GeordiLaForge-^This! Why would you spend a fortune on getting just a minor upgrade and what games would benefit from more power than SLI GTX570?
[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"]nah, the performance gain wouldn't be worth the effort.C_RuleWhat performance gain? They have pretty similar performance. Newer crossfire drivers do better scaling than SLI, 6970 crossfire tend to perform more closely to gtx 580 sli, especially at higher than 1080p resolutions.

Let's be honest here though.
2 570's in SLI is already "overkill" for todays games.
By that I mean it already runs everything perfectly.
Only way this can be close to justifiable is if you want to take advatage of eyefinity or run one monitor at an absurd resolution.
I can't see how you're not happy, i mean you could always pass me those 570's.
And by the way did you just manage a 5.4Ghz overclock on your i7 2600K or is that just a typo?
It might not be. I'm going to use a 25,000 btu a/c compressor to freeze my Ivy Bridge CPU.. My son will get the liquid cooled setup...I can't see how you're not happy, i mean you could always pass me those 570's.

It would be a pointless switch. Waste of time and money.Elann2008sorry. forgot to mention straight swap with my friend no additional $$$ :D
anyways.... thank you all for answering! ^^ i think ill swap it, just for fun, then maybe add a physx card 8800gtx or 260 maybe SirAlfonzTan
Just letting you know, don't count on this. If I'm not mistaken, Nvidia has blocked any form of Physx cards to run alongside an AMD gpu setup through their drivers. Only way you might be able to do it is if you get the "modified" ones, if you will.
As for the question, I'd say do it, particularly because 1) performance gains would be noticeable due to better scaling, and 2) VRM's are not junk on the 6970, so you would be able to overvolt without worry on them compared to the 570's.
if you're swapping with your friend then sure try it out, the 6970 performs very close to a 580 sli setup, your friend thinks hes getting phsyx with the 570's but you know that only 5 games of the entire pc gaming library use it, and only 1 you probably care about. You get more powa, he gets physx bwahaha

You know, you might want to bother to do some reseach before making these types of claims.
But.. a dual GTX 570's will grant you 60fps+ in just about every game out there. There's really no need to swap. More than 5 games use physX.if you're swapping with your friend then sure try it out, the 6970 performs very close to a 580 sli setup, your friend thinks hes getting phsyx with the 570's but you know that only 5 games of the entire pc gaming library use it, and only 1 you probably care about. ripping off? hes the one who offered me :D break something, daaaaam scary, hope that doesnt happen! :D something he hates about 6970 is because it blows heat inside of his casing, which is also has a modded acrylic sidepanelIf you don't mind ripping off your friend then sure, but you're probably not going to see enough of a performance improvement for it to be worth the effort (nevermind if one of you manages to break something doing the swap).

take note i only have 1x px2370 lol!! 2x 580 is an overkill for me but i quite like the saying hey whats ur rig? ive got 2600k @ 5g and 580 @ sli ps: that susan coffey is soooooooo prettySirAlfonzTanAMD Athlon II X4 645, 1GB Geforce GTX 460 and 4 GB RAM. I am upgrading to a sli/crossfire board that does Bulldozer cpus and maybe have another GTX 460, and of course she is.:P
[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"]nah, the performance gain wouldn't be worth the effort.C_RuleWhat performance gain? They have pretty similar performance. Yeah thats what I'm wondering. Changing to a 6970CF isnt a step forwards or backwards in performance. Its more like a sideways step...

I have a 460 1gb card and my disapointments with it are the lack of games thhat support physx and how over rated it is. The only game I tried physx on so far is mafia 2, and the effects don't look that much different from my old radeon 4770. Don't believe the hype people, physx isn't all that compared to regular physics done through the cpu.
