Well after over a year I'm tired of 60hz@1200p and I need something better to push my 670s. Both the 144hz@1080p and 60hz@1600p monitors would be viable upgrades in different ways, the former for refresh rate and the latter for higher res. With the 24 inch I not only get 144hz but also 3D to see if that's worth using and the ability to go multi-monitor at res like 5760x1080 and 3240x1920. But the 30 inch would give me better viewing angles, a better picture and even higher res for everything.

So should I go and see what 144hz(and maybe even 3D along with multi-monitors)is like 1st to see how much better it is than 60hz, or should I go for 2560x1600 1st?

In my opinion, your choice is going to come down to what you want to do with the panel, and future upgrade path.

Myself, I don't really play games that benefit from fast refresh rate (and I don't care about 3D), and I didn't want to bother with the bezel issue that comes with a three monitor setup. So, for me I chose 2560x1600. I know we're both using very similar hardware, so I can tell you that I have had zero issues pushing the 30" with my 670's. Never drops below 60 FPS.

Your choice should be governed by what it is you want to achieve and how you want to proceed in the future. Just my two cents...

144Hz only if you're planning on playing a lot of Competitive FPS games or fast paced games. If not then there is not point to it really. And judging by the screens you post you play every type of game so I would go with 1600p first as you will likely get more out of it

I'd look for a 1600p which is regarded as a good overclocker. If you can get a 1600p panel to 75Hz+, that'd be much better than 1080p @120Hz.

unless you are running games at over 120 fps most all your games then 144hz is not worth it. Its also most likly a crappy TN pannel.

Not true, 120Hz displays have been known to improve the stability of the image at all fram rates. 120 fps is just the sweet spot for them, but people have said even games like LA Noire capped at 30 fps even looked smoother on a 120 Hz monitor

If you don't care about turning graphics settings down for more res then 1600.

If you want smooth looking frame rate even with unstable frame rate then 120Hz.

The 1st graphics setting I'll always turn down or even off is MSAA to gain better performance. I usually want the highest in other settings.

This pretty much. And even then, I would say 144hz is only good for hardcore competitive gaming.

why 1600p and not 1440p though? I never liked the look of 16:10 personally but if you went 1440p then you could likely get a better or bigger monitor for less than a 1600p model. Is there much of a difference even between 1600p and 1440p?

1600p is better than 1440p for general use due to the vertical height and everything just looks bigger. And going by what I saw, I found some non Korean 1600p monitors that have extreme low input lag as well. Not to mention Korean 1600p monitors are 600 bucks and even less with some models.

That is true. If it had a super-thin bezel, it will give the illusion or look of it being bigger. It may sound silly but I've looked at super-thin bezel monitors first-hand and it appears bigger than it is.  Plus, it's really nice as you just get the screen and not a thick frame.  Some monitor frames are ugly haha.

I think you will go triple-monitor one of these days lol  Next step lol

By the time 1440p and 1600p are more affordable, we'll have 4K desktop displays. :| Wonder if we'll be stuck at 60Hz with 4K displays. I don't wanna have to use 60Hz. ~80Hz I'd be fine with, though.

4kres will still be demanding for games and I can see that happening when it comes to hertz because of that bandwidth.

Yeah same here. I really like the housing on the Leonidas. Catleap has a beautiful bezel but it's only 27". I'm leaning more towards Leonidas. If I do get one, it will be the perfect pixel. I don't mind paying a bit more.

So, Sparta vs Leonidas.  I think I'm going to order one but I'm worried about the dead pixels.  Do they have a return policy for it?  Most of these korean monitor on ebay say they won't allow returns if it is up to 5 dead pixels.

In all the Catleap and yamakasi monitor club threads around I haven't actually seen anyone complain about dead pixels. Only reason it's a topic for discussion is because you can get perfect pixel models, if that policy wasn't there then people wouldn't second guess the originals. You have just as much chance getting dead pixels in other monitors.

The policy is it's allowed have 1 dead pixel in the centre of the screen and 4 more on the outer edges. I'd say you'd be very very very unlucky for that to happen. You could wait until I get mine (whenever it actually comes) to ask. But I wouldn't worry too much as of now.

Unlike Mitu, I'm in a bit of a pickle. He has sli setup going, while I only have a single GPU. In games like BF3, I will still be able to pull off 60fps at high settings, but other games will be extremely demanding considering they are already demanding now at 1200p. I can't argue that daily desktop use outside of games won't be a joy though. :)
