I'm looking at 120hz v 1440p primarily for gaming purposes. Here are the two products I'm considering:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236206

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176242

I know there are a huge amount of threads on this, and I've read many of them. I'm hoping to get some ideas between the technologies used and get some good subjective feedback by users that have experienced these types of product and can compare them. Both monitors are close in price, and I'm aware one is sharper with much total picture quality, whilst the other has that buttery smoothness. My 120hz tv made such a huge difference for me. As much as the transition from standard def to high def.

I'd love to check these out in person, but I live nowhere close to where I could see these monitors in action. I'm running a 7970 right now (1050/1500), but plan on upgrading to sli 670's with 4gb within the next few months. Thanks for any help, consideration, and feedback on your opinions of the better "gaming experience" these monitors can provide!

Yeah generally 60hz should be fine unless you want to do a lot of online FPS gaming or want 3D. You're right that the best idea would be to find a place that has them on show and see which one you prefer.

No 1440p monitor is ideal for gaming at the moment, especially if you play a lot of FPS, since virtually all the 1440p monitors out there have around 2 frames of input lag. Having 120hz will help you in fast-paced games, while having 1440p (high input lag) will hurt you in fast-paced games.

120hz will be better for gaming. 1440p will be better for everything else.

I have a 1440p monitor and love it. Haven't used a 120Hz monitor before but but unless you're a hardcore FPS player or something I don't think the advantages of the reduced input lag will affect you too much

Some interesting opinions here, though the 1440 monitor I'm looking at, according to anandtech, shows less than a frame of input lag, meaning there's no ghosting or lag at all. Thanks for your' thoughts guys...keep them coming!

You cna take my IPS panel from my cold dead gamer hands!

Seriously, I could never og bakc ot the limit color gmaut, the limited contrast ratio, the limited resolution and most importantly the limited viewing angles.

IPS all the way man. Just be aware that you'll need some serious hardware to max out demanding games @ native rez.

I have the Asus VG278H 120hz monitor and I love it! Good picture quality and solid build. Is alittle expensive though because of the 3D glasses.
