Dell U2718Q 27" 16:9 UltraSharp 4K IPS Monitor

What concerns me is the 5ms response time. I ended up getting a GTX 1080 and wanted a good monitor that can take advantage of the better graphics card, but don't want to break the bank since I already spent a good portion of my budget on the card. With these specs would it be good or can you suggest a better monitor that does above 1080p that isn't expensive.

  • 27" IPS (In-Plane Switching) Technology
  • DP / Mini DP / HDMI Inputs
  • 3840 x 2160 Resolution
  • 1300:1 Contrast Ratio
  • 350 cd/m² Brightness
  • 178°/178° Viewing Angles
  • 5 ms (GtG)
  • 1.07 Billion Colors
  • Built-In USB 3.0 Hub

@Articuno76: I'm not dead set on IPS. Just looking for an affordable gaming monitor to go with the 1080.

Can you suggest some examples of monitors that don't suffer from terrible quality control issues that have 1440p, high refresh, and G-Sync?

I use a D17 S2417DG, a 1440/165Hz G-Sync TN panel. I love the motion clarity it produces, even against other TN panels.

However, I found the appreciable resolution difference between 1080p and 1440p at 24" to be very small, so if you really want to feel the upgrade offered by that resolution you'll want an 27" screen. The Dells S2716DG is one such display, however keep in mind that the first run of those monitors had issue with colours that subsequent runs ironed out. AOC also has a 1440/165Hz TN offering that you might want to consider.

If you have a 1080 I'd honestly recommend a 1440p monitor with support for high refresh rates and G-Sync support. The fact that the monitor doesn't have G-Sync (as well as it's design stylings) tell me it's oriented more towards content creation. Unfortunately while there are 1440p high refresh rate IPS panels out there they all seem to suffer from pretty terrible quality control issues, so I'd honestly keep waiting if you are dead set on IPS.

Wouldn't go with 27' 4K display waste of money and it'll hog your GPU for nothing.

You shouldn't be concerned about 5ms - it's fine for gaming, I moved from a 2ms monitor to a 5ms one and I got used to it in 2 days. (unless you're into frantic tournaments competitive gaming aka Quake Live etc)

I would recommend on getting IPS monitor - I replaced my LED one for IPS and the colors are better so it'll enhance your gaming, browsing, video and picture experience all together.

No worries. Hope you enjoy it. Just keep in mind you might need to follow an online guide/recommended settings to get the monitor to look right as TNs are often poorly tuned out of the box.
