Instead of buying a 4K or 1440p monitor just buy a 1080p one and use DSR or VSR to upgrade its resolution. Just did it on a 32 inch 1080p monitor and I upgraded it to 4K. Saved about 1000 dollars.
Because it's still 1080p... DSR/VSR don't actually change your resolution, but they increase the amount of power it takes to render the graphics to the same as if you had a 4K but for far less graphical fidelity increase in return.
That said, I agree that jumping on the 4k bandwagon isn't the best idea right now. The best monitors out there are still 1080p or 1440p and you often take a hit in terms of overall monitor quality in exchange for that 4k bump.
@buckquarterman: DSR is like an advanced version of anti aliasing, but uses way more of your gpu so less fps than just running AA. It does give a prettier picture at 1080p than using AA, but I wouldn't recommend using it for 4k with newer titles unless you like playing games at a low fps. For older games it is a really good feature I've been using it for Red Faction Armageddon and the game looks amazing even though with DSR it's still only 1080p, but with less jaggies.,
