So, I'm about ready to make the jump to a 144hz monitor, and with it, new hardware is in order. My goal is not only to play current games on high settings at 1080p (not an ultra gamer here, unless the jump is big enough) with as high of a framerate as possible, but also to account for the inevitably more demanding future titles of the next few years (looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077.)
So my question is, if I wanted to play at this resolution on these settings, and utilize the potential of my 144hz monitor, would a 1070 or 1080 be a better, long-lasting choice, considering the price difference. I'd prefer to find a model that only requires one 8 pin power connector. Thank you.
Edit: Not sure if I really need to list my specs for this simple question, but here you go.
Intel Xeon E3-1240 v2
8GB DDR3 1600
Nvidia Geforce GTX 970
1TB WD Black 7200RPM HDD
Windows 10 Pro
I know it's a bit older of a build than usual, and my RAM may be a bottleneck, but I'm not too concerned with that, as long as I'm able to get more performance than my current 970.
