amd released the RX 590 today its the best 1080p card right now, nvidia is cooking up a special so we will see how long this lead lasts.

it comes with 3 AAA free games including RE2 and DMC5 (qualifying cards, limited offer) and a $279 price tag, pair this with a good hdr 1080p ips freesync monitor and that a great mid range gaming system.

Can't argue that. However, that 590 is a good budget card. I still recommend a 1070 for anybody who likes to play at max settings at 1080p. Sadly, even a 1070 won't cut it on games like AC Odyssey though...

So they are able to squeeze more out of the 580 by shrinking the die and refining it? Whats the oc potential on it compare to the 580? I'm glad it exist I suppose for pcmr cause theres a huge gap between the 580 and gtx 1070.

lol. technically you are correct nothing else plays games with ultra ray tracing at 60fps 1080p, every other card is a fail. looks like its gonna be screen space reflections, shadows and ssaa for awhile yet

RX-590 at 1560 Mhz yields 7.188 TFLOPS.

RX-590 needs Vega 64 ROPS with L2 cache linkage and memory bandwidth update.

I dunno. My 980ti has dominated in 1080 for many years and continues to do so.

Just out of curiosity, because I don't really follow AMD too much these days, what is their Geforce 1080 "equivelent"?

Anyway at ~250 dollars that card does seem good.

Glad it's not just me. My Nvidia 980 has, surprisingly, been kicking ass to this day, but AC: O is the first game where I was like "hmm...maybe it's time to upgrade."

I'm trying to make it to the first quarter of next year (7 nm nvidia cards, Intel's next chip, etc) but with Christmas coming up I was going to treat myself haha.

It's never and always a good time to upgrade, amirite?!?! :P

@mrbojangles25: High power draw on the card though =/

If there is a decent jump in performance with next gen GPUs I'll most likely buy one...

@mrbojangles25: Vega 64 is AMD's top GPU and the closest they have to GTX 1080.

Even though AMD giving away 3 games worth of 180$ I would go with GTX1060 6Gb just because it's more power efficient / has lower temps.

We're talking about 66C temp of load with the 1060 6Gb compared to 78C of the 590.

I'm living in hot climate country so either AMD moves to water cooling or I'll keep sticking to Nvidia (as much as I hate Nvidia right now doing whatever they want with their prices - AMD got to be more energy efficient)
