i have a laptop running windows 10 and the inverter board went out its pretty old so im gonna buy a new one anyway but i had an idea i have an old compaq presario desktop with a working motherboard and a blazing fast cpu considering its age im wondering my laptop HDD uses a standard SATA port and i wanted to know is it possible to boot my compaq from it and go straight to win10? im already quad booting it but if i can manage to boot from it will my data still be there? also my biggest question would be that my laptop is running windows 10 if i can boot from it will i boot to win10 or to win8.1 which is the factory installed OS? just wanted to ask before i went and pulled apart a laptop for its HDD.

so let me get this straight, you want to boot your desktop with the laptop hdd which had Windows 10? it will work with all your data there, you might have to uninstall some drivers as it can cause issues. ive done similar things with only driver issues.
