Recently purchased a HP Envy 750-530 which comes with a Nivida Geforce 1060 graphics card. Question is would upgrading to a 1080 be worth it? Would also need to upgrade the power supply so all in all it would be about an $700 investment.

Bought the computer with a 32" HP Omen monitor if that makes a difference.

Play most games on a PS4 and I have never bought a computer game.

Are you happy with the performance the GTX 1060 gives you? Are you playing at 1080 or 1440?

Is it worth it? depends on do you need it? yeah the jump in performance is worth it, but can't you run all of your games at the desired settings and performance?

I'm currently using GTX970 and I pretty much max out every game at 1080p with steady 60fps.

@brutus51:

So you got the one that has i7 7700 and GTX 1060 3gb then. Your 32" monitor is 1440p 75hz . For most games that GTX 1060 3gb will perform good while others you will need to tone some settings down. Its a good start into pc gaming. Get some games that your wanting to play on pc and try them out if the performance isnt good enough for your liking then you can look into getting a stronger gpu. By you should also note that computer has a 500w psu so you will probably will have to replace it if you upgrade to a stronger gpu.

GTX 1080 is better, you should only upgrade if you are not satisfied with gaming performance

At 1440p with a a GTX 1060 you can get away with playing games on High settings and having a 60FPS experience. So I would say just stick with it... Going from High to Ultra isn't worth $700.

I know several people who still game on 1440p monitors with GTX 980/970 builds and they are doing just fine with games like BF1 and Destiny 2 and a 1060 is in that performance group. I say you are more than good to go... Just start enjoy 60FPS gaming its a huge difference in Destiny 2 compared to consoles.

Thanks for the feedback but over the weekend I packed up the Envy brought it back and exchanged it for a Omen 880-050.

I figured rather than invest further in the Envy I might as well trade it. Cost more but in the long run less hassle for the same price. Only disapointment was that after I got it setup I bought Forza took about 6 hours to download. Computer has Xfinity high speed internet with direct ethernet. Is this normal?

@brutus51: You have a beast PC now with that Omen 880-050. It has the 7700K and 1080 Ti which is the same as mine. As for Forza 7... It is around 100 GB which is a very large install. It will take much longer than most games to download. The speed of the download is determined by your internet package with Xfinity and not your PC.

Usually Xfinity is lickity split fast but not with that puppy. Don't know exactly how long it took, I got tired of waiting left it on and went to bed.

I'm currently using GTX970 and I pretty much max out every game at 1080p with steady 60fps.

I've had a 970 too pretty much since launch, it still maxes out everything (near enough) at 1080p 60fps.

I've had the upgrade bug this year, but keep talking my self out of it because there is no need, I only use a 1080p TV to play on.

The 970 has been a great card.
