still chillin with the 4790k
4670K here and not really feeling the NEED to upgrade that being said at the prices of the Ryzen 7 series I am contiplating on building a 1700x.
These i9 will probably start at £500/$600.
I don't get why i7-7740K and i7-7640K only support 16 PCI-E lanes. Even my i7-6700K has 20 lanes. How will that work for people running multi-GPU's and m.2. ...? It doesn't make sense to decrease amount of of PCI-E lanes on main stream chips.
It looks like 7640K was re-branded from i5 to i7 since it still has 4c/4t.

The CPU has 16, chipset got 20. Your 6700K I mean. It's most likely the same with the Kabylake-X processors.
I don't think we will see i9 lineup.

I understand your complaint for the M.2 slots since they are starting to get really popular, but I don't agree with multiple GPUs statement. Both SLI and Crossfire support titles are very limited and it has been a fading market for awhile now.

M.2 and SLI isn't an issue on these CPUs. SLI requires 16pci-e lanes or more from the CPU. M.2 requires pci-e lanes from the chipset. Cost is usually two SATA ports or so I think.
I was looking to see if any prices were leaked and found this...
Don't know how reliable it is, but hey, it's interesting.
@The_Stand_In: I don't trust it given the source. But if it happens to be true, then it really goes to show how much Intel has been slacking on the HEDT and mainstream platform. Jumping from 10 to 18 cores from one generation to the next is a big jump.
Wonder what the pricing will be. If true, I don't see the 18 core chip cost less than twice that of 5960X.
from what i see i think AMD has started a war , but intel never cared about the price ... lets see how much it will cost 18 core from intel but if its less than 2000$ i would be suprised ..
by the time i finished saving for the $2000 version a newer better cpu would been released, maybe i can pull off saving for the 7820x at $599
I love how AMD has shocked Intel into making these market moves. I don't think it is worth it, at least if you are an X99 chipset owner. AMD is much more worth owning IMO.
the latest news , Intel has shot themself with an arrow in the leg . https://www.techpowerup.com/234422/core-i9-7900x-skylake-x-review-shows-up-at-hexus-net
