My TV is 5+ years old and I'm in the market. Not for a 4k, as I don't have the hardware to make it worth it (OG PS4 and 1070), but financial considerations as well. I'm looking in the realm of $300 but can go up to $500 if needs be. I've been doing a bit of research online and am tending towards a Samsung.

As this will be for gaming mostly I want to avoid burn-in which I hear is a problem with LED? What kind are available? Everywhere I look online seems to have different recommendations. For 1080 gaming, 48"+, no burn-in and under $500, what are my best options?

I'm not aware of led back-lit lcd having any burn in problems, only oled has that problem right now and they cost over a grand the very least.

1080 is on the way out and simply not worth it anyway simply because the cost of a 4k set is dirt cheap these days. I am dead serious https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tcl-55-class-led-4-series-2160p-smart-4k-uhd-tv-with-hdr-roku-tv/5878703.p?skuId=5878703&cmp=RMX&extStoreId=109&ref=212&loc=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw-8nbBRBnEiwAqWt1zbxS2UMdqdUQtcoI2hHE0-W_Q4nH08fpGsBJzi3djGSk_-hrZ217ZBoCC2AQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds 55 inch in the $3xx price range. I ended up getting that in 43" for $255 bucks a while back. The reviews aren't bad either.

I recommend tcl s405,s515/7, or the 2018 vizio e series at that price range, those three have relatively low input lag. If you don't trust those brands than you can go for the samsung counterpart, it'll cost more and have less bang for buck features, but it'll be more robust with screen uniformity and the likes.

Go dig around rtings or tv reddits too.

Whatever you end up getting (1080 or 4k) make sure it has low input lag.

Exactly! Check for low input lag and even if does have high input lag then don't worry as GAME mode fixes it!
