I picked up a Acer XB270HU about a month and the monitor is pretty great but I'm thinking of moving back to 1080p. A lot of the games I play only support a max resolution of 1080. Also most of the video content that watch is at 1080 or 720. Is it wise to sell the Acer on pickup a cheaper 1080p display?

Uh... are you nuts? I'm failing to think of a single game that supports 1080P but not 1440P. 1080P and 720P video content isn't being hurt in any way by being upscaled to 1440P.

^^ This.

I'm not having many problems at all finding games running at 3440 x 1440p. Can't imagine why you'd even think of getting rid of that beauty of a monitor...but hey, to each their own.

Why would you want to return that monitor? It is a great monitor. What games don't offer 1440p? Your reasons/excuses are pretty weak. Sounds like you got some weird buyer's remorse going on. Spending outside your comfort zone maybe? Not being able to push good framerates @1440p with your current GPU setup?

I had to endure the pain of going back to my U2412M (24" 1200P IPS) a few times exchanging my XB027HU for one without dead pixels or dust in the screen. 1440P is excellent if you have the power to drive it. I don't miss having less screen space.

It would be nice to know what these games are so future buyers will know.

@anime-2k3: Did you make sure your monitor was set at 1440p in the display settings? Could be set at 1080p for some reason. Also, you could go into your nvidia settings if you have an nvidia gpu and force the game to run at 1440p.

I'd say stick with the monitor, like others have said. With time you can go about upgrading your PC so that it uses 1440p to its full potential, if that's the issue that you have with it. If buyers remorse is the problem, then selling it second hand and going with a cheaper 1080p monitor to get some of the money spent back probably isn't going to make you feel better. Especially if you calculate how much you've ended up losing with the entire ordeal.

I think someone sold you a 1080p monitor for a 1440p one.

XB270HU just got a nice review from Tom's Hardware.

There's no doubt we love hi-res gaming at both the QHD and Ultra HD levels. Our review of the XB280HK Ultra HD was very favorable and we enjoyed the super-sharp picture and G-Sync technology of that monitor. And connecting the XB270HU IPS display to our gaming system right after that makes it easy to compare the two monitors back-to-back.

First off, it's hard to see a difference in clarity between the two. The pixel density is 157ppi for the 28-inch Ultra HD screen versus 109ppi for the 27-inch QHD. At a viewing distance of around 30 inches, image sharpness looks pretty much the same to us. But the extra speed afforded by the XB270HU's high refresh rate does improve smoothness. Coupled with G-Sync, it's about as close to perfection as we've seen to date.

You've got a monitor that is as close to perfection to date, according to Tom's Hardware. 1440P is future proof - a couple years from now you'll be happy you stayed with this monitor.

Thanks. Something to put in my notes in case I buy those games.

Is 1440p that big of a difference from 1080p? Cause I can't really tell much of a difference from 720p to 1080p on a monitor.

Yeah 1080p is all you need because 900p is all the human eye can see. So now that you don't need your xb270hu, you should send it to me.

@Jr14: I notice a big difference from 1080p to 1440p. The jump from 720p to 1080p should be very noticeable to you. If you don't notice a big difference, you may want to get your eyes checked. hehe :)

If you are happy with 1080p there is no sense in upgrading to 1440p or 2160p (4K). It is a lot more demanding on your GPU. You can easily achieve high fps on 1080p vs. the the higher resolutions.

@BassMan: just seems like they are making better 1440p monitors. I'd be happy with a 1080p 144hz 2ms> response time g-sync ips monitor lol, but I don't think anything like that exists that I'm aware of. Even in 1440p.
